The epic journey of the Winchester brothers come to a close as SUPERNATURAL enters its fifteenth and final season. Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) and the angel Castiel (Misha Collins) have battled demons and angels, mythical creatures and monsters, in a seemingly unending quest to save the world. But in the final battle of the show’s 14th season, they faced off against God Himself (Rob Benedict) – refusing to kill their surrogate nephilim son Jack (Alexander Calvert), and thus bringing about God’s decision to end this reality once and for all…

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray, which I am reviewing in this blog post.   The opinions I share are my own.

Since 2005, many fans of the supernatural/action series “Supernatural” have been entertained.

Watching the Winchester Brothers, Sam (portrayed by Jared Padalecki) and Dean (portrayed by Jensen Ackles) as the hunt down demons, ghosts, monsters and other supernatural beings.

The long running series would eventually come to an end in November 2020 with a total of 327 episodes having aired.  And now, “Supernatural – The Fifteenth and Final Season” has been released on Blu-ray and DVD.

Along with the angel known as Castiel (portrayed by Misha Collins), the Winchesters would take in Jack Kline (portrayed by Alexander Calvert), a Nephilim (fallen angel) and son of Lucifer and Kelly Kline.

In season 14, Jack became soulless after killing Michael, absorbing the Archangel’s grace to regain his own Nephilim powers.

God/Chuck Shurley (portrayed by Rob Benedict) gives the Winchesters a special gun that can kill Jack, but to use it, the one that uses the gun would die.  Dean who had the gun is unable to use the gun enrages God, which it is realized that this was all part of God’s story (creating/destroying and not caring about anyone but himself) and as the Winchesters and Castiel fight against God than kill Jack, God decides to resurrect the souls of Hell to rise.

Season 15 begins with the Winchester’s and Castiel with the body of Jack trying to escape from a cemetery with zombies going after them.

Meanwhile, a demon known as Belphegor enters Jack’s body and the four learn that along with the dead arising, this includes demons which the Winchester’s have fought and killed, but also the return of serial killers.  And now they must all work together to defeat these demons.

God continues his path of writing his story, destroying worlds, no matter the cost at and the Winchesters and allies must find a way to defeat him.

Family.

Despite all the demons, vampires, zombies or other supernatural beings, “Supernatural” has always been a series about family.  And at the heart of the series, the relationship between two brothers, and those around them, wanting to find a sense of what it is to be family and to protect the people who are important to you.

And with the final season of “Supernatural”, the writers find a way to craft a story about the Winchester Brothers, Castiel and Jack but also bring back familiar faces who play a significant role.

Chuck Shurley (God) who was first introduced in season 4 is the primary antagonist.  We see Kevin Tran, the prophet making a return.

We see Rowena MacLeod (who debuted in season 10 as an antagonist), mother of Crowley play a major role in this final season, as with Amara/The Darkness who debuted in season 11 who was revealed to be a sibling of God.

We also get to see a few other familiar faces make their return for the final season.

And everything leads to one path, one final battle against Chuck Shurley (God) who has manipulated the lives of the Winchesters and their allies for his own amusement.

For the most part, the series began about Sam and Dean Winchester, brothers…family and then it ends with a series finale that is ironic, surprising but yet quite appropriate to end the series the way it did.  Even down to the musical choice of Kansas’ “Carry on Wayward Son” being a big part of the series finale was appropriate.

It has no doubt been a special 15 years.  The community and fan support behind “Supernatural” from beginning to end was no doubt evident online, at events that I have attended.  Hearing from friends who absolutely loved the series and were shocked at certain events that transpired season after season.

The special appearances of familiar faces for this final season, the storyline of the Winchesters and their allies against all odds but everyone finding a sense of peace through family, again, despite all the darkness, demons and monsters and wicked beheadings, the theme of family has always been there, even so more evident in this final season.

“Supernatural” has been a series that many grew up with, loved and to watch it come to an end, you can’t help but feel grateful to the cast and crew for entertaining us for so long.

It was an amazing ride from beginning to end and with this final Blu-ray/DVD release, “Supernatural – The Fifteenth and Final Season” is highly recommended!
