Since you started buying Blu-rays, have you been installing those digital copies on your system or a portable device (iPad, iPhone, Sony PSP)? Well, I know there is a large group that do, while there are some who are late adopters.
I am one of those late adopters.
For those who are not sure what a digital copy is, some Blu-ray releases come with a bonus digital copy to install to a portable device. You get a code and when you enter that code, it will download on iTunes and you can watch that movie on that portable device or laptop (it won’t work anywhere else but the computer it was installed on). Some digital copies have expiration dates and some companies allow you to watch it on their website via streaming, while some realize that they now have a coaster for their drinks because the digital copy expired within a year.
I’m going to be truthful, when it comes to digital copies, I haven’t bothered with them. And now I can’t believe that I’m coming so late to the game of installing these on my iPad and not knowing if they are expired or not.
I spent yesterday testing out digital copies as I was to lazy to fill them up on my iPad earlier and realized a few have expired. I’m actually going through everything today as I’m curious how much I can fill up my 64GB iPad.
But here are my experiences of having to install the following digital copies on my iPad as of March 2011.

Personally, I wish there was no expiration dates or at least giving a user more than a year to install them. Now that people are purchasing better iPods, iPads or iPhones, you would think that the companies would change the policy on these digital copy expiration dates. But for now… the best thing to do is if you purchase a Blu-ray that does come with a digital copy, install it right away. Otherwise, even if you delete it off your system, you can re-download it again later on iTunes.
