THE REVIEW:
With each Marvel Super Hero film comes a LEGO tie-in and for “IRON MAN III”, LEGO released “LEGO MARVEL SUPER HEROES – Iron Man vs. the Mandarin: Ultimate Showdown”.
With this set, it’s more about creativity and something for the children, rather than being movie accurate. But let’s take a look at this set but first, let’s start off with the minifigures!
Included in this set is Iron Man and the Mandarin. Iron Man looks cool with his blue pulsars and the blue (flame) emitting from his feet should look like he is in flight.
The costume for Iron Man looks very cool as it is printed on both sides and the same can be said for the Mandarin.
Removal or lifting of the facemask reveals a ticked off Tony Stark, while the Mandarin…I have to admit this is one antagonist, bad guy LEGO minifigure that I don’t dig. His green outfit… while having printing on both sides is quite boring. His slicked back hair and long black beard doesn’t look right.
In fact, it would have been cooler to give him the Mandarin robe, the long moustache and make the character look much more menacing, but instead he looks like a hillbilly.
Meanwhile, to make the Mandarin much cooler is to give him a HYDRA flame-shooting vehicle that shoots out flames and other weaponry to capture IRON MAN!
I know other AFOL’s feel the vehicle is silly but I look at the children who probably would dig this for its vehicle and flick missiles.
The vehicle is the most time consuming part of the set but one probably can build this entire set in a half hour.
While you get a few extra LEGO building bricks and special accessories as well!
I know many people may have purchased this set when it was sold for $7 on Amazon. It’s a simple set with two minifigures with cool IRON MAN and not so cool looking Mandarin. But the set makes up for creativity, especially in coming up with weaponry that gives Mandarin command over his rivals.
