The world may best know the musical pioneer Kenna for his Grammy-nominated song “Say Goodbye To Love“, his MTV VMA Breakthrough-nominated and critically acclaimed videos, or his production work with some of the biggest names in music (Lupe Fiasco, Justin Timberlake, N.E.R.D.) However, you may also know him for his philanthropic efforts to bring clean water to the world through Summit on the Summit, a first ever transmedia climb to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Kenna masterminded the project and invited cultural influencers on the ascent; culminating in a 2 billion impression event that raised awareness for the fight against the global clean water crisis. Â In 2011, music fans will be able to add innovator to that list as Kenna sets out to launch the first in a series of 3 EPs this year, The Land 2 Air Chronicles.
Based on Emerson’s “Self-Reliance” essay, Kenna is challenging the norms head-on by forgoing the machines of the record industry and bringing his musical aspirations into reality on his own. Â Kenna’s music speaks for itself. Â The L2A EP series will feature three EPs, each with 3 new songs and original art that will lead up to the 2012 studio album release of all new material, “Songs for Flight“. Â The first of the EPs, Land 2 Air Chronicles I : Chaos And The Darkness, is the darkest of the three. It depicts the struggle to break free of the “chains” that prevent vision coming to life or taking flight, and thus was born the first single “Chains” featuring Shimmy Hoffa aka Chad Hugo of the Neptunes, co-written by Paul Banks of Interpol. Â The song is a dance floor anthem that reflects the mystery that is Kenna and the bravado and cunning he brings to the music game. Â It is also a step out of the shadows and into the spotlight with a new found sound and confidence. Â The world has been salivating for a movement, but a movement needs a leader. Â With “Chains,” Kenna has just turned the application for the job. Â Land 2 Air signifies more than just music – it’s an answer to the question that the world and record industry are constantly asking: What’s next?
