YUKI – Ureshikutte Dakiau yo (a J!-ENT World Groove CD Single Review)

I admit that I was taken back by seeing Minami Takahashi and Rino Sashihara doing a duet. But at the same time, I was quite thrilled to see how their chemistry would be together and in the end, it’s a beautiful ballad that I enjoyed and listened to many times. For Minami or Rino fans or those who are into the AKB48 Team Surprise releases, “Dessan” is another single worth having in your AKB48 music collection! Recommended!

From YUKI, former vocalist of JUDY AND MARY comes her 20th single titled “Ureshikutte Dakiau yo” (which translates to “Happy to be holding you”) and a single to be released on YUKI’s birthday.

The song is quite breezy and jazzy and features composition by mugen (who worked on YUKI’s “Hoshikuzu Sunset” single), the song features a different musical approach for the rock vocalist.  Featuring a collaboration with NONA REEVES band members Shigeru Komatsu (drums) and Kensuke Okuda (guitar).

The one thing that one cam appreciate YUKI’s latest single is her ability to mature and try different genres and while some fans may be put off by it, while “Ureshikutte Dakiau yo” may be too lounge jazz for others, dedicated YUKI fans will enjoy the coupling track about temptation titled “Yuwaku Shitekure”, which is a YUKI-esque rock track and a track I probably listened to more than the main track.

The single comes with a bi-fold with lyrics and production credits and a mini-happy birthday card.

Overall, a good and fresh single from YUKI which may not be for everyone but I do like the experimentation with music for this single but yet also having a second track to please longtime YUKI fans.
