Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra is one of the longest running bands in Japan. The band began as a Japanese ska and jazz band and was formed back in 1988 by percussionist Asa-Chang and started off with ten members from Tokyo’s underground scene. The group has continued to revitalize itself and the ska genre in Japan by incorporating ska, jazz and rock and also, it helps when a member of the group brings something new to the sound of the band. The current lineup consists of the following members Nargo, Masahiko Kitahara, Tatsuyuki Hiyamuta, Gamou, Atsushi Yanaka, Yuichi Oki, Takashi Kato, Tsuyoshi Kawakami, Hajime Ohmori, Kin-ichi and Motegi.

The band has released their 32nd single “KinouKyouAshita”. The title track features an upbeat pop rock/ska track with vocals. While the second track “Give Me Back My Ball” features an all English ska track. The third track “愛の讃歌 -Hymne a l’amour-” is a pretty cool track as it transitions from a fast paced surf-style diddly to a mid-tempo ska track.

The band ends with “Tokyo Ska Medley” which was recorded live at Zepp Tokyo back on May 9th during their tour “Paradise Blue Tour Final”. A wonderful medley by the band!

The CD insert features a two-pager with lyrics for the first two songs and an insert of all the performance dates from October-December 2009.

Overall, if you enjoy Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra’s music and are a big fan of the group, “KinouKyouAshita” is a solid single and you also get a cool live track included as well.
