For every generation, there are teen sex comedies that are hilarious, fun or just dumb and crappy. I happen to have enjoyed it! “The Virginity Hit” is definitely a sex teen comedy for today’s social media conscious teens. This film may not be for everyone but it’s definitely a sex teen comedy made for this latest generation of addicted YouTube/Lifecasting/Facebook audience!

From the guys behind Step Brothers comes THE VIRGINITY HIT, an outrageous mockumentary about trying to lose your virginity while the whole world watches. Matt is the last of his buddies to lose his virginity. With his stepbrother recording his every humiliating move and posting it online, Matt gets revenge on his cheating girlfriend, breaks the law, gets a sexy cyber offer too-good-to-be-true, meets the porn star of his dreams and becomes an Internet sensation in the process. Getting laid was never this funny.
In 2010, writers Huck Botko and Andrew Gurland (“The Last Exorcism”, “Mail Order Wife”) began working on their teen sex comedy produced by Funny or Die’s Will Ferrell and Adam McKay.
Featuring a cast of young newcomers who are not actor’s but wanted to capture the feel of today’s YouTube stars, normal people trying to make it big by entertaining millions online, “The Virginity Hit” is a mockumentary about a group of friends who are hardcore into recording their life’s exploits and put them online.
But the main goal is to chronicle Matt (played by Matt Bennett, “Victorious”) and his girlfriend Nicole (played by Nicole Weaver) losing their virginity together. The social media experiment is ran by Matt’s good friend Zack (played by Zack Pearlman) who is hardcore in recording every exploit of Matt and his friends and posting them on YouTube.
Matt currently lives with Zack because his mother (who was good friend with Zack’s mother) died of cancer and his dad was a junkie. So, he has been taken in by Matt’s family and has fun with Matt and his sister Krysta (played by Krysta Rodriguez) and their friends.
Each time they film the lovebirds, Matt and Nicole are just waiting for the right moment to have sex but three weeks before they they decide to have sex, Zack overhears people talking about Nicole having sex with a college guy at a frat party. When Matt hears this, he is distraught.  How can Nicole do this to him? They have a great relationship and were supposed to have sex with each other because they love and trust one another.
His friends come up with an idea to humiliate Nicole. Go on with the plan to have sex with her but they will rent a double room at a hotel and they will record everything and broadcast it. Meanwhile, all their friends will listen in.
But as Matt gets ready to get his revenge on Nicole, he can’t. He confronts her on the gossip about her and she confirms that she did do something with a college guy but they didn’t have sex. But she is humiliated that Matt was going to use her and intentionally hurt her. She was just drunk with the frat guy and didn’t mean to hurt him.
Needless to say, the whole debacle was shown on YouTube and everyone has been tuning in to see if Matt, the virgin would get laid.
And as the people online have differing opinions on whether or not they support Matt’s willingness to hurt Nicole or not, a 25-year-old woman named Becca responds to the video and offers herself to be his first.
Will this Internet sensation be able to have sex with this unknown woman who is willing to give him that chance? How will Matt’s latest sexcapade to losing his virginity play out as the videos are put on YouTube or a streaming website?

“The Virginity Hit” is presented in 1:85:1 Anamorphic Widescreen and English, Spanish, Portuguese, Thai 5.1 Dolby Digital and French Dolby Surround.   The film is primarily front and center channel driven and is literally all dialogue and music driven. The music was pretty cool, but I don’t recall hearing the surround channels being utilized all that much. Primarily it is heard during scenes with crowds and crowd ambiance can be heard through the surround channels but for the most part, this is a dialogue driven film.
Subtitles are in English, English SDH, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean and Thai.

“The Virginity Hit” didn’t do to well in the theaters and reading the reviews, it’s probably safe to say that many of those who didn’t like it are in their late ’30s or older.
Having grown up with teenage sex comedies since the ’80s, the “American Pie” films of the ’90s and now the “Superbad” films for the current generation, I have no doubt that these films will evolve for a new generation of teenagers and young adults who are using Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and if anything, “The Virginity Hit” is a movie that targets this new demographic who spend so much time online and are not afraid of putting everything on YouTube or streaming their life on Justin.tv or Ustream.
And I’m sure judging by how I haven’t lambasted this film by now, that I enjoyed it. And the truth is, I did enjoy it because as one of the lifecasters on Justin.tv who started streaming my life on video and yes, even went as far as to take a laptop and my webcam wherever I went. And having been there during the infancy of these streaming lifecasts, I’ve literally seen it all and yes, somehow… normal people accidentally getting into the funk, may they have been drunk for one day and just doing something naughty on camera. Some people gravitate towards that attention and it extends to YouTube where people now can be their own producer, their own director, a thespian and hopes they can score millions of viewers.
I have met many people who have had that success and as you have one side who tries to keep it clean but yet have many people interested in their life, there are people on YouTube who want to go further and could care less if you think it’s funny or not.
So, the concept of “The Virginity Hit” made sense for me because I wouldn’t doubt it if guys wanted to film their buddy losing his virginity and chronicling it.
When I think about the teen sex comedies that came out in the ’80s such as “Private School”, “Porky’s”, “Zapped” and many others, these sex comedies have evolved from the drink as much alcohol, sneak into a school or girl’s locker room that we were inundated with during that time. And in the ’90s, yeah… “American Pie” was definitely something new with the streaming of the video to the high school students and accidental e-mails, people can relate to that.
But this is a new generation where social media is part of their life and they are connected in school, by their cell phones and home computers and with technology advances in the last ten years, “The Virginity Hit” is probable and I wouldn’t be surprised if many people are doing what the guys in the film are doing online.
And there’s no hiding behind reality. These kids talk about morning wood, talk about their love of porn star Sunny Leone and these kids are inhaling from bongs and as much as the older generation may look at a generation that is regressing, this film depicts a certain group of teenagers who love to party, love to have fun, love to get high and it’s no different from any generation.
Young actor Matt Bennett almost passes off as a young Andy Samberg and plays the part of Matt, the reject teen quite well. Will Zack Pearlman be the next Jonah Hill? Time will tell but he plays the part of the annoying friend constantly videotaping his friends no matter the situation quite well.
Also, enjoyed the performance of first-time actress Nicole Weaver (who we get to learn on the special features that she works at restaurant and is pretty smart not to take Hollywood alone) and Krysta Rodriguez who plays the part of Zack’s promiscuous sister.
There are a lot of talent who are starring in their first film in “The Virginity Hit” and I have to admit that because these talents got to film themselves, it gave a realistic feel to the overall film. I’m not sure how much was scripted and how much was improvised but you can tell that the kids were having fun with whatever they had to do and filmed it.
If anything, “The Virginity Hit” was like a mash up of “American Pie” and “Superbad” but with YouTube mixed in. I’ve read various reviewers of a variety of publications saying it’s too fake and I’m sure the whole concept may have seemed ridiculous several years ago but the fact that people are willing to put anything embarrassing or film their whole life routine and put it up online is no surprise and the possibility of friends wanting to chronicle their buddy’s loss of his virginity, that’s probable. There are so many ridiculous things online that amazingly are up on YouTube, so it’s not as a fake as some of these reviewers think.
Granted, you often wonder about the parents in the film. Particularly Zack’s parents in the film who seem to be nonchalant about their son giving Matt a present of porn star Sunny Leone’s panties or what goes through the mother’s head when she has to pick up all the sex dolls that are put in front of their house. The parents don’t really react and let these kids do whatever they want.
Another problem is trying to figure out how old these teens are. They are able to go to a strip club (where Sunny Leone is stripping), they drink, they get stoned and they look like they are juniors or seniors in high school. If these kids are supposed to be 21-years-old, they look way young for their age. These kids look way younger than the teen characters of “American Pie” and it made me wonder at times…are these kids still in high school or are they supposed to be young adults and that’s how they are getting into a strip club?  But you know the rule when it comes to these films? Don’t try to psychoanalyze it because in the end, it is what it is.
Overall, “The Virginity Hit” is a pretty hilarious, crazy film. The whole YouTube/streaming is quite real as it is happening now but one should not expect another “American Pie” or a “Superbad”. If you are used to these types of films and you want a good popcorn sex comedy or if you are just some horndog wanting to see former Penthouse Pet of the Year/porn star Sunny Leone in this film, then definitely give “The Virginity Hit” a try!
