THE CONTESTANTS CREATE WORKS OF ART ON NUDE MODELS IN EPISODE TWO OF SYFY’S FACE OFF, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 2 AT 10 PM ET/PT

NEW YORK – January 26, 2011 – The remaining special effects make-up artists are challenged to transform nude models into living pieces of art in episode two of Syfy’s new reality competition series, Face Off, airing Wednesday, February 2 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Syfy.

To view the entire second episode, please go to: http://www.nbcumv.com/mediavillage/screener?networkXml=Syfy.xml.

The episode features one of the world’s premier body painters, Filippo Ioco, as an expert guest judge for the unconventional challenge which calls upon the contestants to draw upon such inspirations as the rainforest, the ocean, a waterfall or an abstract painting in order to bring striking and bold concepts to life.

To celebrate the series launch of Face Off tonight, Wednesday, January 26, Syfy is introducing an innovative Facebook application that will allow users to tag and transform family, friends and themselves via easy-to-use make-up tools to change any Facebook photo into a monster, zombie, alien and more.  Once the photo transformation is complete, users can share with friends by posting to their wall or to a friend’s wall.  The application works within the Face Off fan Facebook page, where users can simply go to Facebook.com/FaceOff Series to access the application.  Transformed photos will appear in the Face Off Facebook page photo gallery.

Syfy.com is launching a roster of themed features, including Do-It-Yourself, a step-by-step guide to help viewers bring to life their very own SFX creations. Each week, Syfy.com will post a feature article, written by a Face Off judge or contestant, detailing make-up effects that users can create at home using materials that are readily available at the non-professional level. Syfy.com will post a complete list of ingredients and components needed while providing a detailed description of how to create the week’s featured effect.

Syfy.com is also rolling out the Fan Face Off Challenge, in which users can submit before-and-after photos of their own makeup jobs in any of these five categories: Alien, Zombie, Animal/Human Hybrid, Male/Female Gender Switch, and Aging/De-aging.  Syfy.com and the Face Off judges will select five finalists, then users will vote for their favorite.  All finalists will receive professional makeup equipment with the grand prize-winner – chosen by users — receiving a MacBook Pro loaded with imaging software.  Rounding out the online components is a before-and-after photo gallery for each of the show’s challenges, along with exclusive video content including contestant audition tapes and un-aired scenes from the series.

Face Off is a competition/elimination series exploring the world of special-effects make-up artists and the unlimited imagination that allows them to create amazing works of living art.  Judging the Face Off competition are some of the most renowned names in the SFX world — three-time Academy Award winner Ve Neill, famed special make-up effects artist Glenn Hetrick and director/creature designer Patrick Tatopoulos. Together, they make a panel that is tough, smart and direct. Their on-point judging styles will push all of the contestants to the top of their game.

The 12 Face Off artists will be whittled down week by week as they compete to outshine their competition.  The winning SFX artist will receive $100,000 and a years supply of make up courtesy of Alcone. Face Off is a production of Mission Control Media with Michael Agbabian and Dwight D. Smith serving as executive producers.
