Surfing America Joins Forces with Rock Band 311

Surfing America, the National Governing Body for surfing in the USA, is pleased to announce that the band members of 311 have graciously invited the Surfing America Summer Surf Jam Festival to be a part of their concert on Sunday, July 12, at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine, CA.

This concert event is part of 311’s 2009 Unity Tour-on which the band is joined by Ziggy Marley and the Expendables for 28 shows coast-to-coast.

“We are extremely excited by this opportunity,” said Surfing America’s executive director Mike Gerard. “And we’re deeply honored by the generous consideration that 311 is giving to the Surfing America cause. This is a huge promotional opportunity for Surfing America that gives the non-profit organization a tremendous chance to raise much needed funds to continue its work to advance the sport of surfing in the United States.”

The Surfing America Surf Jam is a collaboration of leading surf brands and surf media-uniting to promote the surf industry and youth culture in Southern California and beyond. Funds raised will fuel Surfing America programs aimed to develop and grow the sport of surfing in the USA.

The Mission of Surfing America is to promote the growth, competitive success, and positive image of surfing in the USA and to provide the best possible experience for all participants by encouraging, developing, advancing, and administrating the sport–while producing champions.

The Surfing America Summer Surf Jam will involve several surf industry branded booths in a festival setting prior to the concert beginning at 6:00 pm. Additionally, there will be a separate VIP area exclusively to a limited number of Surfing America industry supporters and friends.

Industry exclusive Surfing America Summer Surf Jam VIP and Official Pre-Party packages are only available through Surfing America at SurfingAmerica.org/surfjam

Fundraising incentives include the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for 8 lucky friends to Meet-and-Greet with 311

As an added incentive to maximize the amount of money raised for Surfing America during the Summer Surf Jam, the Our Brand Is Better (OBIB) Contest was created, in which each surf industry booth vendor is invited to compete. The brand team who brings in the most donations through silent auction and/or booth activities will receive valuable prizes and industry bragging rights.

“We would like to send very special thanks out to Live Nation, Verizon Wireless, Samsung, Nalu’s Island Grill, and Coors Light for making this possible,” added Gerard. “Also, thanks to our surf industry sponsors, friends and supporters. We look forward to continued growth and programming improvements-and events like this are critically important to exposing and promoting the organization’s efforts. Finally, words cannot express how grateful we are to be supported by music icon, 311.”

Created by the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA) to develop and grow the sport, Surfing America is an industry-wide initiative. Key projects include: surf school development, improving competition standards, hosting the official USA Championship event annually, and selecting and fielding the PacSun USA Surf Team to compete internationally. With its primary emphasis on youth development, Surfing America is a critical element to successfully growing the sport, and business, of surfing on a global basis.
