1799: Ichabod Crane is a constable from New York who is most concerned with all the new scientific gadgets that will allow him to do his job better. However, he is quite squeamish about his latest assignment: traveling to the town of Sleepy Hollow, where there have been a series of murders involving people whose heads have been cut off. The locals believe it is the work of the legendary Headless Horseman. Ichabod does not believe this, but with the help of the fair Katrina Van Tassle and the young son of one of the victims, he uncovers some very interesting evidence that would suggest otherwise. DVD REVIEW:

A very interesting take on the popular Irving horror fairytale of the Sleepless Horseman.  When you see the menu come up about heads rolling, that’s what you should expect to see in this movie.

Although the cutting off the heads is pretty gross, the way they blended the movie with humor doesn’t make you gross out so much.  If anything is scary is to look at the Hessian.

With the beautiful score by Danny Elfman and the style and directing talent of Tim Burton, it is a given that you will be getting one heck of a beautiful movie.  The backdrops, the atmosphere, the village and the way the movie was shot is brilliant.

Now is the story very good?  It depends on the individual.  For me it was an entertaining horror/fantasy flick and average but pretty good.  It’s a movie that I wouldn’t want my children to see but it’s more of an interest and a curiosity to see what Tim Burton and Johnny Depp brings to the wicked fairytale.

The DVD is beautiful and the colors come alive.  The audio is typical for a dialogue movie and the music just comes out beautifully.

As for special features, there are few including a making of (30 minutes) and cast interviews (10 minutes) which help the viewer get involved with the movie.  They put a lot of work into it and it shows.  Just a warning though, don’t watch the special features until after you watch the movie.  Too many things revealed in the interviews and making of.  The features also include a director’s commentary, photo gallery, trailers and more.

Another interesting, yet cool Tim Burton film. Check it out!
