When it comes to mix tape artists, some are able to branch out and reach commercial success and for 22-year-old rapper, Sin, a Serbian music artist based in Canada, has been tearing up the scene.

His CD single “Boom” was used on one of the coolest dance routines in the season finale of FOX’s “So You Think You Can Dance” and his work has been featured on mixtapes in New York and his music has received airplay in major radio stations all over Canada and also getting extensive play in the US and Europe and now catching fire in Europe and Asia.

In August 2008, the artist released two double-disc albums with “Vijetnam” and “The Supreme Poet”.

With “The Supreme Poet”, it’s literally a 2-hour smorgasbord of heavy hitting rhymes and hyper-detailed rhymes.

You have tracks such as “Camouflaged” (feat. Lil Wayne), “I Gotchya” (feat. Cupid) and “Boom” with T-Pain that are just heavy hitting tracks and energetic rhymes but what caught my attention were the detailed lyrics in tracks such as “Mandolins Cry”, a deep track in which Sin rhymes in English and his Serbian language.  For me, it’s always a pleasure to hear hip hop artists incorporate part of their culture to their music and there are quite a number of tracks on this album that Sin does that.

But another strength about this album is the use of its samples and it’s musical variations.

You have the urban street style covered but then you get tracks such as “Watch Out” (feat. LJX) with that 50’s style sample and a deep bass beat in the background.  Then there is “1991” that has these digital Atari 2600 or maybe NES style video game blips and bleeps in the background in corporation with a cool groove.  And then you have the Journey “Can’t Stop Believin'” kicking off the track with a sample lingering in the background for the track “West Side Soprano” (feat. LJX).

And with 40 tracks, each song is unique and you get something different.  So, for those that love variety, “The Supreme Poet” features a good number of hard hitting tracks that showcase the Sin’s smooth competent flow.

So, overall, I was very impressed with “The Supreme Poet”, definitely Sin is an artist to keep your eyes out for because you get a good balance of music, smooth storytelling in the rhymes and a well-executed album.

With 40 tracks, multiple collaborations and you definitely get a lot from this album alone.  And to know he has another double album out on the same time (which I look foward to hearing now, after listening to this album).  I look forward to hearing more from Sin!   Check it out!
