Cybernetic fowl from the Adult Swim late-night animated bizarro programming block is back with another full season of Emmy Award-winning stop motion comedy insanity!  Twenty colossal, mega-sized quarter-hour episodes! An avalanche of expertly produced, lovingly crafted extras that were not in any way thrown together at the last minute! All on a spinny disc, read by lasers! LASERS! What, are we in space?

In 2005, actor Seth Green (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, “Austin Powers” films) and Matthew Senreich along with writers Douglas Goldstein and Tom Root went on to create “Robot Chicken”.

Back when “ToyFare” was published, the magazine writers Senreich, Goldstein and Root would feature a humorous photo comic-strip  and sure enough along with Green, the guys would create a sketch comedy featuring parodies of popular American pop culture using toys via stop-motion or claymation.  Inspired by a dish at Kung Pao Bistro, “Robot Chicken” was born and it would air on Carton Network’s “Adult Swim” in 2005.

The show has won an Annie Award including three Academy Awards and as the series is on its seventh season, the sixth season of “Robot Chicken” is being released on Blu-ray and DVD in October 2013.

And this time around, the crew bring in more celebrities for voicework but also a few female writers for a fun and crazy season!

For those not familiar with “Robot Chicken”, each episode is about eleven minutes long and features a number of stop-motion and claymation skits. The episodes are not for children as their is profanity and adult discussions on each episode.

EXTRAS:

“Robot Chicken: Season 6” comes with an UltraViolet code (Digital Copy) and a slipcase.

As a fan of “Robot Chicken”, the comedy around stop motion and action figures/toys was a fascinating and hilarious concept when it was first conceived and still remains crazy, hilarious and fun today!

Sure, the comedy is mature and each episode is about 11 minutes long but part of the allure is how much stop-motion and the amount of creativity that goes into the making for each small stop-motion story in each episode.

I haven’t personally counted on how many stop-motion toy skits there are per episode but I can imagine that the serious takes a long time just to create but most importantly, the creativity that comes into writing for each episode and trying to emulate what is seen on the script and making it happen and believable with the action figures and toys.

But with the sixth season of “Robot Chicken”, it’s crazy and raunchy as ever.

What happens when G.I. Joe is sent to join with a modern military to fight with the Taliban?  What happens when the Thundercats go in heat?  What happens when the Great Zordon brings in their new Power Rangers, the Teletubbies?  What is the truth about Pac-Man? What happens when Wilson of “Cast Away” makes it back to the United States?  And what happens when Alvin & the Chipmunks find out they have female fans that are human?

The “G.I. Joe” segments are hilarious.  For those who remember the animated series, most of the time the group were trying to stop technological weapons of destruction, but this time around, everyone has to train the current military and fight the Taliban.  And sure enough, G.I. Joe learns that their military days and today’s military are quite different?

The “Alvin & the Chipmunk” segment is so wrong but so hilarious…what if the three have alone time with their groupies?

And yes, “The Robot Chicken” nerd is back in several skits including one where he joins “Team Fortress 2”. Unreal!

As for the Blu-ray release, this is a jam-packed and fans should love it as their are many hours of special features.  For one, each episode has audio commentary, then there are a number of hilarious featurettes included and also many deleted scenes and deleted channel flip animatics and deleted animatics with video introductions by the crew.

Picture quality is better than the DVD and while details of clothing and even little imperfections are seen much more clearly, the colors really pop and the audio is crystal clear, although a more center and front channel driven lossless soundtrack.

Once again, this is a series not for children.  So, just because there are toys in stopmotion and claymation, there is a lot of profanity and adult humor featured on each episode.

Overall, “Robot Chicken: Season 6” is crazier than ever!  And for fans of the series, you’re getting a jam-packed Blu-ray release with a lot of special features included!  If you dig the series and are aware of its adult humor then this Blu-ray release is recommended!
