This gritty, action-packed crime-thriller pairs action legends Bruce Willis (Die Hard franchise) and Frank Grillo (Captain America franchise) in a chilling tale of justice and revenge.

From filmmaker Brian A. Miller (“Vice”, “Officer Down”) and writer Bryce Hammons comes the action film “Reprisal”!

Starring Bruce Willis (“Die Hard” series, “The Sixth Sense”, “Pulp Fiction”), Frank Grillo (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier”, “Captain America: Civil War”, “The Grey”), Jonathan Schaech (“Legends of Tomorrow”, “Marauders”, “Ray Donovan”) and Olivia Culpo (“I Feel Pretty”, “The Other Woman”), the film is now available on Blu-ray courtesy of Lionsgate Premiere.

The film revolves around Jacob (portrayed by Frank Grillo) trying to make ends meet working as a manager at a bank and supporting his wife Christina (portrayed by Olivia Culpo) and his diabetic daughter, Maribel (portrayed by Natali Yura).

One day while at work, he survives a brutal bank robbery and to make things worse, the authorities tell him it was well-planned and the person knew the place very well.

As Jacob has a hard time getting over the robbery, he turns to his friend/neighbor, former cop James (portrayed by Bruce Willis) who helps him remember what took place during the robbery and come up with clues on how to catch a thief who has been robbing banks and has murdered innocent people.

But as he starts to investigate who is responsible, will his investigation put his family in danger?

We have seen numerous films as part of Lionsgate Premiere in the past few years featuring action star Bruce Willis.  Granted, the films are typically focused on other actors and the films are Bruce Willis appearing briefly.  But to have an action star legend in your film no doubt brings that added star power.

And for Brian A. Miller’s film “Reprisal”, we get a film featuring Bruce Willis but the primary protagonist of the film is Frank Grillo.  Fortunately, Bruce Willis has much more of a role in “Reprisal”, while Frank Grillo had a chance to show another side of himself as an actor aside from just straight-up action roles.

In “Reprisal”, Grillo plays the role of husband/father Jacob, trying to work hard to get the medication needed for his diabetic daughter Maribel (portrayed by Natali Yura).  His wife Christina (portrayed by Olivia Culpo) stresses because she has to be there for Maribel (as their daughter requires expensive medication) and knowing that financially, they are barely surviving due to the costs of the medication.

Jacob is a bank manager and unfortunately, one day his bank is robbed.  Masked gunmen methodically know the bank well and in the process, a security guard is shot and killed.  One of the gunmen turns on his own team and runs off with the money.

But this isn’t the first time these thieve has done this and robberies and murder have dogged investigators, so any information would help in capturing the gunmen.

For Jake, it affects him because now he is paralyzed with anxiety, fear and can’t sleep.  The bank put him on administrative leave and the stress of trying to support his family, but most of all, pay for his daughter’s medication has both he and Christina stressed out.

Fortunately, Jacob has his good friend, former cop James (portrayed by Bruce Willis), who uses his interrogation skills to help Jacob remember key things in the robbery and for Jacob, this makes him want to investigate and go after the person responsible for the bank heist and murder.  But by doing so, will he put his family in danger?

The film’s antagonist Gabriel (portrayed by Johnathon Schaech) is shown as a man full of hate and we see why.

And for the most part, the film is quite entertaining as it is a film full of action and we get to see Bruce Willis also in action, which many fans of the legendary action star want to see in a film.  But the film has its shortcomings as necessary scenes would have been good to have.  The film had to be rewritten to incorporate certain things, according to Frank Grillo (as shown in the special features), but you can’t help but feel that more should have been done to make the film feel real and cohesive.

But with that being said, these Lionsgate action films tend to be Indie action films tied to a major action star or Hollywood name and are not shot with a huge budget.  They are popcorn action films and I will say that “Reprisal” is one of the better popcorn action films that they have released in the past few years (especially starring Bruce Willis, who is typically limited in his role for these films).

Frank Grillo known for his action roles, shows a bit of that in “Reprisal” but the film this time shows him in a different type of role as caring father and husband…a man fighting for his family, which is really good to see.

Overall, if you are in the mood for an action film, especially if you are a Bruce Willis or Frank Grillo fan, then definitely give “Reprisal” a try!
