The Fright Pack DVD includes the highly popular Terror Tales of the Park II 2-part Halloween special, which was the #1 telecast of the day among boys during the premiere in October 2012.

With Halloween around the corner, it’s time for “Regular Show” fun with a “Fright Pack” compilation of episodes on DVD courtesy of the Cartoon Network!

What is “Regular Show”?

In 2010, J.Q. Quintel (“The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack”, “Camp Lazlo!”) created “Regular Show”, an adult animated sitcom for the Cartoon Network.  Based on characters developed during his years at the California Institute of Arts, Quintel pitched the “Regular Show” to Cartoon Network’s Cartoonstitute project and the show was green-lit.

Quintel recruited a few indie comic book artists as part of staff and “Regular show” became a reality on September 2010 and now is currently on its fifth season.  The series have also done quite well in the ratings, a winner of an Emmy and has been nominated for an “Annie” award.

And now “Regular Show: The Complete First and Second Seasons” will be released on Blu-ray and DVD courtesy of Cartoon Network/Warner Bros. in July 2013.

“Regular Show” is an animated series that revolves around two friends, a Blue Jay named Mordecai and a racoon named Rigby, who tend to get themselves into trouble quite often and work as groundskeepers at a park.

The characters of “The Regular Show” are:

  • Mordecai – A 23-year-old, 6’3″ tall Blue Jay that works as a groundskeeper and is best friends with a racoons named Rigby.  The moral character of the two, he always seems to go along with Rigby’s ideas and antics.
  • Rigby – A 23-year-old raccoon who is best friends with Mordecai and works as a groundskeeper.  He is immature and tends to get him and Mordecai into trouble quite often.
  • Benson – A gumball machine and the manager of the park that Mordecai and Rigby work at.  He is often angry at the two because of the trouble they create and has a hot-temper.
  • Skips – A yeti groundskeeper who is immortal and must perform a ceremonial dance on his birthday, if he does not perform it, he will die.  Often saving Mordecai and Rigby when they are in trouble.
  • Pops Maellard – A man with a lollipop shaped head.  He is also a parks manager along with Benson but does groundskeeper work.  He is always happy and gives people lollipops.  His father Mr. Maellard owns the park.
  • Mitch “Muscle Man” Sorenstein – A groundskeeper who looks like an overweight Frankenstein.  He is a prankster.
  • Hi-Five Ghost – A good friend of Mitch and rarely talks.
  • Margaret Smith – A red robin that works at the local coffee shop and knows that Mordecai likes her.
  • Eileen – A mole who looks human and also works at the local coffee shop with Margaret and has a crush on Rigby.
  • Mr. Maellard – Like Pops, he is also a lollipop man and often blames Benson for everything.

“Regular Show: Fright Pack” features a total of 14 episodes which are 12 minutes long (all episodes are on one DVD). Here is a spoilerless summary of each episode:

  • EPISODE 44 – Terror Tales of the Park (Two Part Episode) – Mordecai, Rigby and the groudnskeepers tell each other scary stories.
  • EPISODE 82 – Terror Tales of the Park II (Two Part Episode) – The park workers tell their own scary story while they drive to the Halloween Party.
  • EPISODE 67 – “Dead at Eight” – Muscle Man’s soul is put on the lilne when Mordecai and Rigby babysit Thomas, Death’s child.
  • EPISODE 28- “Jinx” – Rigby becomes a victim of a game of “jinxing”.

  • EPISODE 76 – “Death Bear” – Mordecai, Rigby, Margaret and Eileen venture into an abandoned zoo to take pictures outside a cage of a killer bear.

  • EPISODE 74 – “The Best VHS In the World” – What happens when Mordecai and Rigby must return an overdue VHS tape to the Movie Shack Hut.
  • EPISODE 113 – “Last Meal” – Muscle Man wants to binge on his favorite foods before going on a diet.
  • EPISODE 104 – “Skip’s Stress” – Skip’s stress skyrockets that it must be lowered before he dies from it.

VIDEO & AUDIO:

“Regular Show: The Complete First and Second Seasons” is presented in widescreen. Colors are good (not as vibrant as the Blu-ray release but are good on DVD), color palette is colorful and while the character designs may lack incredible detail and shading of other animated series, what makes “Regular Show” work so magnificently are its characters and the predicaments they get themselves into. But picture quality is good as one can expect on DVD.

As for audio, the series is presented in English Dolby Digital 2.0.  Subtitles are in English SDH.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

“Regular Show: Fright Pack” comes with a villains gallery (text based) for Death Bear, The Wizard, Howard Fightington, Jan the Wallpaper Man, Skull Punch and Ygbir and Icedrom.

Just in time for Halloween which is not far away from now, for those wanting a quick fix of crazy, hilarious episodes of “Regular Show” with a Halloween vibe will no doubt want to check this DVD out.

Featuring a total of 14 episodes from seasons 1-4, while hardcore fans will more than likely purchase the season box sets on Blu-ray or DVD, this DVD is for those who want a DVD with a good compilation of episodes that are just right for Halloween.

For me,it’s interesting to see how “Regular Show” has become the popular animated series in our household. My son can’t get enough of the series and I have to also say that with series creator J.G. Quintel coming from the same area where I grew up, it’s great to see people inspired by what Quintel accomplished.

The story of a guy from a small town attending the California Institute of the Arts and then learning to create animated short films which led him to an internship at Cartoon Network to work on “Star Wars: Clone Wars” and to later work on “Camp Lazlo”.

In 2008, he pitched “Regular Show” for Cartoon Network’s “Cartoonstitute Project” and now he and a crew of 35 people are working on their fourth season.  Suffice to say, J.G. Quintel has become the Hanford, California’s celebrity (after Journey’s Steve Perry) and giving hope to the creatives of agriculture area – Kings County that dreams to have an animated series on television is possible.

So, with the DVD release of “Regular Show: Fright Pack”, this is primarily a fun-filled DVD with 14 episodes with the craziest characters!  Who would imagine a series with a raccoon, blue jay, yeti, a lollipop man and a gumball machine…the concept is so far out there!

It’s hard to believe that there is a series like this but the writers do a great job of creating this fun atmosphere with crazy storylines and it works! May it feature a possessed doll, scary stories, a scary movie, a death bear and more!

It’s important to note that this is NOT a children’s animated program.  While I know there are children who do watch the show, there are crazy situations that make this series have a rating of TV PG V.

Overall, “Regular Show: Fright Pack” is a hilarious and fun DVD release for those wanting their quick fix of “Regular Show” episodes.  For those who own the first two seasons on Blu-ray, will probably forgo this DVD release but it does feature a few episodes from season three and four, which have not been released on Blu-ray yet (but will probably be released in the very near future).

If you are a fan of the “Regular Show” and looking for episodes that would be fun to watching during a Halloween party or just to watch for its craziness and hilarious storyline, then “Regular Show: Fright Pack” is recommended!
