It’s just weeks before Christmas when Ellie (Bethany Joy Lenz) gets a call to return home to help her father (John Schneider) on the family’s poinsettia farm. The family business is on the line to deliver tens of thousands of plants for the town’s annual parade. The problem is – the poinsettias have yet to turn red! As Ellie searches for the solution, she is reminded of where her heart truly lies as she falls in love with both her roots and a local botanist (Marcus Rosner). “Poinsettias” for Christmas is produced by Annuit Coeptis Entertainment, Inc. Christie Will Wolf directed from a script written by Barbara Kymlicka.
We are now getting close to the finish line for my holiday film marathon and for day 45, the next film I am watching is “Poinsettias for Christmas”.
Directed by Christie Will Wolf and directed by Barbara Kymlicka and stars Bethany Joy Lenz (“One Tree Hill”, “Dexter”, “Pearson”, “Agents of Shield”, “Grey’s Anatony”), Marcus Rosner (“Arrow”, “Once Upon a Time”), John Schneider (“The Dukes of Hazard”, “Smallville”), Sharon Lawrence (“NYPD Blue”, “Shameless”), Lauren London (“ATL”, “Baggage Claim”), Rhonda Dent (“Victoria Gotti: My Father”) and more.
The film revolves around Ellie (portrayed by Barbara Kymicka) who has a big chance to get a promotion at her job in the big city, but she has a major deadline by Christmas.
But she receives a call from her mother Katherine (portrayed by Sharon Lawrence) that her husband, Ellie’s father Greg (portrayed by John Schneider) injured his back and can’t run the family business, Poinsettia Farm that they run and with the holidays coming up, they need to deliver tens of thousands of plants for the town’s annual parade and needs Ellie’s help.
Ellie gets permission from her job to go back home to resolve family matters, as long as she completes her deadline in time and returns back to the small town that she once lived in and hasn’t been back in years.
While back at home, she gets to see people she grew up with like botanist Shawn Dalton (portrayed by Marcus Rosner) and even her rival, Patty Mason (portrayed by Lauren London), who she doesn’t get a long with at all.
For Ellie, she knows the farm well. She grew up a farmer’s girl and knows the poinsettias but with her work deadline looming, can she save the family business? And what happens when she grows close to Shawn, even though she’s Patty’s boyfriend?
“Poinsettias for Christmas” does touch upon the usual holiday storyline of girl who came from a small town, moved to the big city to work a big job and returns back to the small town where they discover, living in a small town isn’t so bad. Especially when they find love thanks to Christmas magic.
Of course, with the city girl going back to the small town, that means meeting up with friends and people that they don’t get along with. In this case, Ellie vs. Patsy, Patsy who is now hosts a television show in town and happens to be the girlfriend of the guy she is getting closer with.
It’s an interesting story to watch how everything plays out. Also, great to see John Schneider and Sharon Lawrence, both who appeared on popular TV series, appear on this holiday film.
Overall, “Poinsettias for Christmas” is a film that shows us the Christmas magic and a small town girl who moved to the city, finding what she truly loves in the small town that she comes back to for the holidays.
