On August 11th, Americans will be treated to the Sony Picture Classics French musical “PARIS 36” (aka Faubourg 36). (Read our DVD Review here)

The film which is about a struggling theater during the political turmoil of France during the 1930’s and how the theater full of misfits start to hit their stride when they discover a talented singer named Douce (Nora Arnezeder) and the crew of the Chansonia become a big hit.  Nearly every song featured in the film is captured on this soundtrack.

From the instrumental tracks by Reinhardt Wagner to awesome tracks such as “Loin De Paname (BOF Faubourg 36)”, “Un Recommencement”, “Attachez-Moi”, “Enterree Sous Le Bal” and “Chique” sung by the new starlet Nora Arnezeder who captivates your attention with her beautiful vocals.

It’s not a surprise that new actress Arnezeder shines in the film but also the soundtrack.  Her angelic vocals just shines and tracks such as “Loin De Paname” is just a wonderful example that this actress has so much more to give not just onscreen but also musically.

But also the fun tracks such as “Le Mome Jojo” by Gerard Jugnot, Clovis Cornillac and Kad Merad and the Bugsby Berkeley track “Partir Pour La Mer” with the three men and Nora Arnezeder.  As well as “Les Dingues” by Clovis Cornillac and Kad Merad.

Even the hilarious audition tracks from the film such as “Les Flageolets” by Francois Jerosme and “Y’Aura Jamais D’Accordeon” by Francois Morel are included.

Personally, this is a soundtrack that touches your heart.  If you enjoyed the fantastic film and its magical tracks, this soundtrack features 23 songs and even if you are a person who doesn’t understand a word of French, like opera or any International music, if it touches your heart and you find the music quite pleasing, then you are a person who is able to appreciate its music but also feel the vocals of the singer through your soul.

A fantastic soundtrack and if you haven’t seen the film, definitely give “PARIS 36” a chance!
