My Sweet Holiday (2020) (a J!-ENT Digital HD Review)

“My Sweet Holiday” is a fun film and the film does have Christmas vibes and romance, but it could have been much better by a few edits. Other than that, it’s an entertaining holiday film.

When Sadie’s boyfriend cancels their plans, she decides to spend Christmas with her parents, only to find they’ve sold the family’s chocolate store to a stranger who knows nothing about chocolate. She’s the obvious choice to help teach the new owner everything she knows about chocolate and she discovers that not everything has to be perfect. Sometimes, when you least expect it, you find love.

We now approach the final three holiday films of my holiday film marathon. For day 48, it’s the 2020 Lifetime Television film “My Sweet Holiday” which is directed and written by Sandra L. Martin.

The film stars Malone Thomas (“MacGyber”, “Creepshow”, “Ozark”), Jason Burkey (“The Resident”, “The Walking Dead”, “Ordinary Joe”), Alexandra Ficken (“Poms”, “The DUFF”, “The Originals”), Remi Hilson, Patty Lambert and George Cron.

The film begins with a young Sadie, who wants to be a chocolatier like her father.

Fastforward to the present, Sadie (portrayed by Malone Thomas) works for a firm and finds out that a new branding concept that she designed for a client, wasn’t approved and she’s bummed out about that. In addition, her boyfriend decided to stay out of the country and not join Sadie for Christmas.

Bummed about about how things are going in her life, she goes back home to visit her parents.

While at home, she visits her best friend Taylor (portrayed by Alexandra Ficken) and when visiting her parents, she finds out that they are retiring and sold the family chocolate shop to a stranger who knows nothing about chocolate. While her parents had hoped that Sadie would run the business, she has chosen to pursue her career in the city.

The stranger turns out to be Alex (portrayed by Jason Burkey), a single father who buys businesses and grows them.

While Sadie is upset and bummed that her parents are selling the chocolate shop, she wants to do all she can to train Alex about chocolate and also prepare a fitting retirement party for her parents.

But what happens when Sadie spends time getting to know Alex and starts to fall in love with him?

“My Sweet Holiday” is an entertaining drama, but there are some issues. For one, the story tries to bring together Sadie and Alex, but really doesn’t resolve the fact that she was in a relationship with another man, this other man who eventually heads back home to be with his girlfriend. Possibly a scene of her getting dumped by her boyfriend would have made the transition of her looking for love to be a bit more acceptable and removing all scenes involved of him trying to reach Sadie.

Also, there are some scenes where Sadie is a bit mean towards Alex. Fortunately, Alex has a kind heart.

Other than that, “My Sweet Holiday” is a fun film and the film does have Christmas vibes and romance, but it could have been much better by a few edits. Other than that, it’s an entertaining holiday film.
