During the Christmas holiday, Mary (Erin Bethea) experiences emotional trials that cause her to question her faith until a visitor (Brett Varvel) arrives and her husband (Jason Burkey) receives an unexpected miracle.

While the majority of the holiday telefilms I have watched were from a major TV network, “Miracle on Christmas” is one that actually was shown on various digital platforms.

And the film is a faith-based holiday telefilm which is directed by Thomas Bonifield and stars Erin Bethea (“Fireproof”, “New Life”, “The Redemption of Henry Myers”), Jason Burkey (“Ordinary Joe”, “The Resident”, “Walking Dead”), Brett Varvel (“American Underdog”, “The War Within”), Micah Lynn Hanson (“Nashville”), Kimberly Cruchon Brooks (“Betrayed”, “Eternal Code”, “Imagine”), James Pilachowski, Jacqueline Yunez, Justin Mane and more.

This holiday telefilm is unique when it comes to holiday telefilms.  For one, as more holiday telefilms are becoming more progressive and modern, this is traditional faith-based that features a Christian family.

It’s been a year since Mary’s (portrayed by Erin Bethea) father had died and while her family have moved forward with their lives, the family is rocked with bad news that her husband James (portrayed by Jason Burkey) has a major illness and has only 18 months to live.

Having lost her father and knowing that her husband is dying and she has two children, it has sent her into depression that she stopped going to church, stopped talking to family.  It’s been hard on her.

Meanwhile, for James, despite the diagnosis, he wants to enjoy what time he has left with his family and for Christmas, he wants his children to be happy and tries to get Mary to please do it for their children, Lydia (portrayed by Lily Bowen) and Caleb (portrayed by Ethan Mathias).

While James and the children go to church, they are introduced to Harry (portrayed by Brett Varvel), who has a great singing voice.  He has no place to go for Christmas as he is from out of town and so they invite Harry to join them for Christmas with the family.

Mary’s mother Helen (portrayed by Kimberly Cruchon Brooks), her sister Martha (portrayed by Micah Lynn Hanson) and her hsuband Bill (portrayed by Justin Mane) and their son Josh (portrayed by Braydon Eaton), her brother Peter (portrayed by James Pilachowski) and his new girlfriend Gabby (portrayed by Jacqueline Yunez) are coming for the Christmas festivity.

But when family arrives, they are noticing something is very off with Mary and she’s been acting quite mean to everyone. What happens when Mary has to tell everyone the truth of what is happening to their family?  And will there be a guardian angel that will bring this family some hope?

For the most part, I think this holiday film really hit me hard.

I lost my father right after the New Year of 2021, I was hospitalized in December 6th of 2021, and it was probably the darkest place I have ever been in.  And I prayed to God that I live, because my family really needs me and another person from the family dying is too much.

We have suffered this before with my grandfather dying, my uncle who was his and my grandmother caretaker then succumbing to cancer not long after and my grandmother dying a few months later of a broken heart of losing the two.

I know loss very well, especially during the holidays.  But I also know the power of prayer but also know about hope and despair.  “Miracle on Christmas” is not a film that sugarcoats things, that an angel comes along and everything is fixed completely.

But it’s a film that shows us how important it is for family to forgive, to enjoy the life that we have and the life of others close to you and if anything, giving hope to the viewer who has experienced a similar situation.

It’s one of the reasons why I started watching these holiday telefilms, as I mentioned in the past, with the death of loved ones, it really does change the dynamics of one’s life.  But it’s important to have that quality of life as well and to have faith in God.  Again, this is a faith-based film and it’s a positive and hopeful film.
