As Namie Amuro focuses on her solo career, members of the Super Monkeys (NANA, REINA, RINA and MINA) have created a new pop unit known as MAX (which is an acronym for Musical Active eXperience).

The group were primarily background dancers and backup vocalists to Namie Amuro but in 1995, the group made their debut with “Saturday Night ~ Love Velfarre Dance~” and were a group that helped promote the opening of the dance club velfarre.

The group released their second single “Kiss me Kiss me, Baby” and had a breakout third single earlier in the year with “TORA TORA TORA”.

Now here they are with their fourth single “seventies”, a Hyper Euro track that is a cover of the popular dance track from MEGA NRG MAN and a coupling track which is a cover of ANNALISE “SUMMER TIME”.

As avex is pushing MAX to coincide with activity at their dance club velfarre and the club bringing international club/dance artists and groups, I’m sure we are going to see more club covers from the group. But it’s definitely a formula that has worked since “Seventies” is the first track for the group that debuted in the top 10 of the Oricon Singles charts.

“Seventies” is a pretty catchy track and similar to “TORA TORA TORA”, utilizes the Hyper Euro musical arrangement with success and this time, the group is collaborating with GROOVE SURFERS for the musical arrangement. I haven’t heard the original song from MEGA NRG MAN but “Seventies” is a pretty awesome summer dance track and another solid track from the dance quartet.

“SUMMER TIME” is another awesome coupling song and cover. I haven’t heard the original from ANNALISE but the track is a pretty cool upbeat, dance track and once again, musical arrangement courtesy of GROOVE SURFERS. I definitely like the break on the bridge and I’m sure that was for the purpose for the ladies to really shine on stage.  But definitely an awesome coupling track!

The remaining two tracks are the karaoke version of the two vocals.

Overall, I’m so happy that MAX is now getting so much attention and they are literally all over television. It’s so great to see them on TV and enjoying success and I look forward to their next CD single!
