When it comes to NBA Championships, the largest rivalry in sports is between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics. A rivalry which was born in 1959 when the Lakers were still known as the Minneapolis Lakers and both teams would meet up in the finals a total of 12 times.
The Celtics would take the championship in their first eight meetings (1959, 1962-1963, 1965-1966, 1968-1969) but the Los Angeles Lakers led by Magic Johnson would take the next two championships in 1985 and 1987.
Many have hoped for another rivalry on the floor between the two teams and in 2008, the top seed of both conferences which featured the Lakers led by Kobe Bryant vs. the magic three of the Boston Celtics led by Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen. And for Los Angeles Lakers fans, one of the most painful moments was watching the Lakers lose in game six of the 2008 NBA finals to the Celtics.
While the Lakers would rebound and claim the championship against the Orlando Magic in 2009, what fans wanted was revenge for the 2008 loss and to see the Lakers vs. the Celtics one more time in the NBA Championships. The Lakers were expected in the championships as they dominated the season but for the East, eyes were on Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers but the biggest shock was the Celtics dismantling both the Orlando Magic and the Cleveland Cavaliers to make it to the finals.  And thus, the revenge matchup that Lakers fans have wished for had arrived.
The two most successful franchises in the NBA were destined to go against each other and these Lakers have grown since their loss against Boston. This time around, the Lakers would have the addition of skilled defensive player Ron Artest and also strong young players from the bench. Also, this time around, the Lakers would have home court advantage.
And what a nail-biter the 2010 NBA Finals came to be as the Lakers and Celtics took it all the way to game 7.

Two games are presented in the first three discs, while the seventh game is on the fourth and contains the majority of the special features. You can play the entire game, select a quarter, view the score quarter breakdowns and the stats.

“Los Angeles Lakers 2010 NBA Finals Series Collector’s Edition” is presented in 1080p High Definition (Widescreen).  The colors are vibrant, much more detail and clarity (more than the HD broadcast) and the picture quality was quite perfect.
I saw no signs of artifacting, especially with so much action, I saw no combing or any problems with the video.Very awesome presentation and Lakers fans should be happy! Even the special features are presented in HD.
AUDIO & SUBTITLES:
“Los Angeles Lakers 2010 NBA Finals Series Collector’s Edition” is presented in lossless DTS-HD MA Stereo. Audio is front channel driven and although it would have been nice to have 5.1 or 7.1 surround to capture the sound of the actual game and make your living room to have a more immersive soundscape, I’m just glad that there is a lossless audio track.

I was raised in a Laker household and since then, I have always been a hardcore Lakers fan.
When it comes to the playoffs, this is when I get into the mode where during a game, I don’t want to be bothered. I don’t want to be interrupted, it’s me and television set and literally me cheering or screaming when things are not going right.
Needless to say, when the Lakers lost the championship back in 2008, as a fan, it was a big hit to the stomach.  I literally went through a day or two of withdrawals of not wanting to speak to anyone, not wanting to watch TV to avoid any post-news coverage, like many other Lakers fans, I was devastated. Because a Lakers and Celtics matchup in the finals, they rarely happen and when they do, you know it’s going to be a war.
I still have my old VHS tapes when the Lakers beat the Celtics back in ’87 and I can easily remember as a kid, being into the finals and literally biting my nails and awaiting the call from my father working late at work to get a report of the game.
Lakers and Celtics…1985 and 1987, two finals that I will always remember but I just hoped for another shot of the LA Lakers going against the Celtics in the finals. Revenge for the loss of 2008 and see the 2009 champs kick butt in 2010 and what a fantastic year the Lakers have had.
As many people were expecting Lebron James and Cleveland Cavaliers or the Orlando Magic being in the finals, literally no one had expectation for the Celtics to be in the finals but they proved that their team was the better team in the Eastern conference as they dismantled the Cavs and thumped the Magic, I had nothing but a grin on my face because the Los Angeles Lakers vs. Boston Celtics rivalry was back in full force for the 2010 NBA Finals.
There was no way I would have expected the Celtics to be up 3 games to 2 and so it was literally an excruciating feeling of hoping the guys can win game 6. And as for game 7, what a nail-biter. There was no way to tell who was going to win.
Even the final two minutes when Ron Artest made his three, Celtics responded with a three, Lakers were back in the lead, Rondo makes a three pointer to cut the lead into two. This was one of the best game 7’s I have seen and to see the Lakers come back after being behind 13 points and winning the finals, what a sweet victory this was and a memorable 2010 NBA Finals!
And what a great way to relive the finals and to watch it on Blu-ray. Colors are vibrant, detail much more evident. So, evident that even people sitting in courtside become much more visible on Blu-ray.
So, the fact that we get the entire matchup of all seven games of the 2010 finals on Blu-ray (and DVD) is fantastic. All post-game commentary and also post-game interviews (as well as the press conferences) are included on this Blu-ray release. And pretty much, this set is pretty much all Lakers fans can ask for.
It’s important to note that you don’t get the losing team interviews and that after game seven during the celebration of the Lakers win and award ceremony, ESPN does have their logo featured small but you can see it on the upper right corner of the screen.
Sure, I would love to have had a featurette on both teams via a recap of the Western and Eastern Conference playoffs and seeing the journey that got the Lakers and Celtics to the finals. But this is not the usual NBA championship DVD’s that show those clips from the playoffs, this one primarily focuses on the actual seven games in the finals.
As for audio, I’m glad we get a lossless soundtrack but I hope in the near future, the NBA considers capturing the stadium ambiance and sounds and present these games in DTS-HD MA 7.1 versus 2.0. It would be great to have that immersive soundtrack in your living room and hearing the stadium erupt right in your living room or entertainment center.  But for the most part, this release is front channel driven and audio is crystal clear courtesy of the lossless soundtrack.
You do get a good number of special features such as the mini-movies and certain press conferences are included, especially the post-game 7 Ron Artest’s jovial press conference which will definitely be remembered.
Overall, for fans of the Los Angeles Lakers, especially those who still have the games still on their DVR harddrive, this is the best presentation of the game on Blu-ray via 1080p and not in 720p and it looks fantastic. But if anything, this collector’s edition would make a great purchase or gift for the hardcore Lakers fan and definitely worth owning because it features the Lakers beating the Boston Celtics in the 2010 NBA Finals. How sweet is that?
