life in plastic: LEGO Speed Champions Ferrari 488 GT3 “Scuderia Corsa” (#75886 )

The LEGO Speed Champions Ferrari 488 GT3 “Scuderia Corsa” (#75886 ) set is a wonderful vehicle/minifigure set.  While not saying the female racer is two-time champ, Christina Nielsen (who raced for Scuderia Corsa), I give LEGO a thumbs up for releasing a set with a female racer for the Ferrari 488 GT3.  But also the engineers who were involved in the making of this car.  I was impressed!    Highly recommended!

THE REVIEW:

Back in 2015, LEGO formed a partnership with three automobile manufacturers: Ferarri, McLaren and Porsche to create popular vehicles made out of LEGO’s.

The line would be known as LEGO Speed Champions and so popular the line, in 2016, they would add a partnership with Chevrolet, Ford and Audi.

In 2016, we saw the release of LEGO vehicles and sets featuring Ford, Ferrari and Porsche.

And with the Ferrari, there was the Ferrari LaFerrari and the Ferrari 458 GT2 plus a Ferrari F14 & Scuderia Ferrari Truck set in 2015.

Here we are in 2018 and this time we have the LEGO Speed Champions Ferrari 488 GT3 Scuderia Corsa.

Scuderia Corsa is an American automotive racing team which competes in the IMSA SportsCar Championship, Pirelli World Challenge and Ferrari Challenge in North America.

And this time we have a female race car driver, no doubt possibly paying an homage to Christina Nielsen, the first woman to win a major full-season professional sports car championship in North America who raced with Scuderia Corsa and rode the Ferrari 488 GT3 with back-t0-back championships in 2016-2017 (she has since moved on to Wright Motorsports in 2018 and driving the Porsche 911 GT3 R).

Let’s first take a look at the minifigure:

The female racer has the Scuderia Corsa outfit with the Siefert logo on the shoulders, a faux Continental-like logo and the black patch that the Scuderia Corsa racers wear.  While the actual logo is smaller on the upper right of their chest, I liked the fact that LEGO made it big going through the waist.  It works much better that way and is more legible.

There is also printing on the rear of the clothing with the logo across the top back area and the white/blue pocket area extending in the back as well.

The female racer also comes with a helmet and visor (x2) and also her blonde hair.  While the head is a single printing.

She also comes with a trophy and a wrench.

Here is the actual Ferrari GT3 488 when Christina Nielsen was still part of the team:

The video is from 2016 but it goes to show how the car looks like and I have to say that while different, as one can expect for LEGO, especially when it comes to decals, this vehicle is probably the most fun I have had building a LEGO vehicle.

I have built many vehicles but there were a lot of research done to find the right bricks to make the Ferrari 488 GT3 really standout and look appealing to the consumer.  It utilizes many different style of bricks and is 179 pieces.

And typically, I like to speed time myself in creating a vehicle but for this one, I was amazed of the bricks used that each time I put one part together and wondered, what is their plan for this?  And you realize that once you add it to the actual car, the way it was designed makes perfect sense.

An attractive car and fun to build!

Good-sized compartment for the minifigure and the canopy easily snaps in and also is easy to remove.

And while I’m a person who tends to have a disdain of using LEGO stickers, these stickers definitely make the car look so cool.  Just know that the most difficult of the stickers will be the one on the window canopy.

Overall, the LEGO Speed Champions Ferrari 488 GT3 “Scuderia Corsa” (#75886 ) set is a wonderful vehicle/minifigure set.

“LEGO Speed Champions Ferrari 488 GT3 “Scuderia Corsa” (#75886 )” is highly recommended!
