Leighton Meester – Your Love’s a Drug (a J!-ENT World Groove Digital Single Review)

A much better musical release from the “Gossip Girl” actress.  Leighton Meester’s “Your Love’s a Drug” is a catchy bubblegum pop track but with three songs (with three different musical styles) from Leighton thus far, it’ll be interesting to hear what kind of music she will have in her upcoming album.  But overall, her second single is much better than her first.

ARTIST: Leighton Meester

DIGITAL SINGLE: Your Love’s a Drug

RELEASE DATE: March 31, 2010

  1. Your Love’s a Drug

Leighton Meester is known for her role as Blair Waldorf on the CW hit show “Gossip Girl” but when the actress showed off her vocals on Cobra Starship’s “Good Girls Go Bad”, everyone was quickly inquiring of when the actress would have her own solo single and album release.

Not long after, Meester was signed by Universal Republic and news that her album would be produced by notable names such as “American Idol” judge and well-known music producer Kara Dioguardi, RedOne and Jr. Rotem and her first single “Somebody to Love” featuring a collaboration with R&B artist Robin Thicke was released in October and followed up by a Christmas song “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” which was on the compilation album “Very Special Christmas 7”.

Now, Meester returns with her second single “Your Love’s a Drug”.  The track is a synth, dance, pop track and unlike “Somebody to Love”, no voice manipulation and pretty much showcasing Meester’s vocals and to tell you the truth, I prefer Meester with this musical style and it fits her vocals.   But with two singles, we get two different musical styles and it will be interesting to see what kind of music we get with her upcoming album.

But for the most part, “Your Love’s a Drug” is a catchy pop tune that I’m sure her fans will adore but I definitely want to hear more material from Leighton and get a feel of what kind of musical direction she’s headed, especially with the well-known producers that she will be working with.

Overall, “Your Love’s a Drug” is a good catchy bubblegum pop single.
