Takahashi Tetsuo is a demi-obsessed researcher who wants to learn more about the demi-humans, aka demis, living in the world. When he starts a new teaching job, he discovers four demis at the school and does the only thing a researcher can do – interview them! But he’s about to learn there’s more to these girls than the legends claim. Nothing’s more complicated than being a teenaged demi!

Back in 2014, mangaka Petsou created a manga series which he wrote and illustrated titled “Demi-chan wa Kataritai”.

Serialized in Kodansha’s “Young Magazine the 3rd”, the series would receive an anime TV series adaptation courtesy of A-1 Pictures in 2017.

And now the anime series (titled “Interviews with Monster Girls”) will be released on Blu-ray and DVD courtesy of Funimation.

The series is set where demi-humans (or “Demis”) are accepted into human society.  The main protagonist is biology teacher, Tetsuo Takahashi, known as “Iron Man” by his students, he is quite fascinated with demis and wants to help them.  So, he wants to meet and interview them, so he can try to help them.

He meets Sakie Sato, the new math teacher who happens to be a succubus.  And because of her aphrodisiac which her body produces, she often wears a tracksuit to hide her body and tries to avoid men, including Tetsuo.

Tetsuo ends up meeting and interview demis attending the school which include:

  • Hikari Takanashi – A vampire who is likes garlic, who likes walking out in sunlight and drinks blood packs sent by the government and uses blood substitutes like tomato juice.  She is very protective towards her friends and very energetic.  She is very close to her twin sister Himari, who is human.
  • Kyoko Machi – A dullahan whose head is separated from her body.  Her body has a blue flame coming out of her neck, and she holds her head.  Because of that, she hasn’t had many friends because people find her awkward because of her detached head.  She has a crush on Tetsuo because he shows interest in wanting to learn more about her and help her.
  • Yuki Kusakabe – A snow woman whose body is always cold.  She has a fear of harming others because of the cold air she can emit, but after meeting Tetsuo, she learns more about herself.

VIDEO:

“Interviews with Monster Girls” is presented in 1080p High Definition and the animation for the anime series from A-1 is good.  Backgrounds are typical classroom or room settings, but the series focuses on its characters and for this type of anime series, overall artwork and character designs are good.

AUDIO:

“Interviews with Monster Girls” is presented in English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 and in Japanese Dolby TrueHD 2.0. The anime series is primarily dialogue and music-driven.  Both soundtracks are well-acted and for the most part, fans should be pleased with the lossless audio.

Subtitles are in English.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

“Interviews with Monster Girls” comes with the promo videos, commercials, textless songs and trailers.

EXTRAS:

“Interviews with Monster Girls” comes with two Blu-ray discs and two DVD’s.

For those looking for a light-hearted and delightful anime series, one can’t go wrong with “Interviews with the Monsters”.

The series revolves around a biology teacher named Tetsuo Takahashi who has interest in demi-humans (Demi’s) and wants to help them out.

For example, Hikari Takanashi is a vampire, but yet she doesn’t have the weaknesses that vampires are known for.  Hikari becomes his first demi that he interviews and from there, he meets a dullahan named Kyoko Machi, a snow woman named Yuki Kusakabe and a colleague named Sakie Sato, who is a succubus.

And through Tetsuo, he manages to show each of them that he accepts them for who they are but also tries to help them face their insecurities but to show them that their fears are nothing to worry about.  They can have friendships and have fun.

And the series doesn’t stray too far from that.

Is it safe for children, well, the are a few situations, such as Sakie Sato, the teacher who falls for Tetsuo and tries to entice him with her body but despite her succubus power of aphrodisiac, Tetsuo manages to not be caught up in it.  So, there is fan service in that aspect.

You also have Hikari who is enamored with Kyoko’s body and you have a Kyoko holding her detached head, so some children may be freaked by this.  So, it’s a series best for teenagers and up.

But I really enjoyed “Interviews with Monster Girls”.  It’s a fun-series that is not too demanding on the viewer.  And while the manga is still ongoing in Japan, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a sequel in the future.

Overall, if you are an anime fan that is looking for a short series that is delightful and whole lot of fun, will definitely want to give “Interviews with Monster Girls: The Complete Series” a try.
