IN DARKNESS ON BLU-RAY & DVD COMBO PACK ON JUNE 12

Culver City, CA (April 23, 2012) – Directed by Academy Award® nominee Agnieszka Holland (Best Adapted Screenplay, Europa, Europa, 1990), IN DARKNESS, a Sony Pictures Classics Film, is based on the true story of an ordinary sewer worker who helped save a group of Jews from Nazi persecution.  IN DARKNESS, which was nominated for an Oscar® for Best Foreign Language film, will be released by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment on Blu-ray™ and DVD on June 12th.  The combo pack will include two special featurettes – “An Evening with Agnieszka Holland,” and “In Light,” a conversation between Holland and Krystyna Chiger who, as one of the youngest survivors of this extraordinary story, chronicled her experiences in the book, The Girl in the Green Sweater.

During a career spanning almost 40 years, Agnieszka Holland has made a name for herself directing award-winning European films such as Europa, Europa and Angry Harvest, as well as   episodes of popular American television series including HBO’s “The Wire” and “Treme.”   IN DARKNESS, her latest film, was an official 2011 selection of the Telluride Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival.

Synopsis
From acclaimed director Agnieszka Holland, IN DARKNESS is based on a true story.  Leopold Socha, a sewer worker and petty thief in Lvov, a Nazi occupied city in Poland, one day encounters a group of Jews trying to escape the liquidation of the ghetto.  He hides them for money in the labyrinth of the town’s sewers beneath the bustling activity of the city above.  What starts out as a straightforward and cynical business arrangement turns into something very unexpected, the unlikely alliance between Socha and the Jews as the enterprise seeps deeper into Socha’s conscience.

IN DARKNESS is directed by Agnieszka Holland and written by David F. Shamoon, based on the book “In The Sewers of Lvov” by Robert Marshall. The film was produced by Steffen Reuter, Patrick Knippel, Marc-Daniel Dichant, Leander Carell, Juliusz Machulski, Paul Stevens and Eric Jordan.
