Back in 2015, a Japanese light novel series titled “Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni” (In Another World With My Smartphone) was written by Patora Fuyuhara and illustrations by Eiji Usatsuka.

An anime adaptation would be released from July to September 2017 in Japan courtesy of Production Reed and now the anime series will be released in the United States courtesy of Funimation and was licensed by Crunchyroll.

And now the animated series is available on Blu-ray + DVD!

“In Another World With My Smartphone” begins with Touya Mochizuki speaking to God.

He was accidentally killed by a bolt of lightning and so, God allows him to be resurrected.  Unfortunately, he is unable to be resurrected back to his previous life but he can be reincarnated into a fantasy world along with a single special request.

Touya requests that his smartphone be brought into the new world and so, God modifies his phone to function in the fantasy world.  An ability to bring real world things to the fantasy world and more!

He also gives Touya a physical, magical upgrade including his cognitive abilities as an apology for the inconvenience.

When he is reincarnated into the fantasy world, he meets the Silhoueska Twins (Elze and Linze).  Elze has long hair and is a fighter with enhanced gauntlets, while Linze is a magic specialist that can use fire, water and light.  A rarity as most magic users master one.

When they go to see what kind of magic Touya can do, to their surprise, he specializes in all seven attributes of magic: Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Light, Dark and Null.

And because he was raised as a good person and to help those in need, he joins the Silhoueska Twins on adventures and take on missions along the way.

He starts meeting other people who will join them on their quest such as the samurai – Yae Kokonoe, the princess of the Kingdom of Mismede – Yumina, a tiger spirit named. Kohaku, an artificial made being named Francesca and more!

But there is one thing that Touya never expected… Many of these girls also want to be his bride!

EXTRAS

“In Another World With My Smartphone” comes with a Blu-ray slipcover, the Blu-ray and DVD for the series.

It’s been awhile since I watched a harem anime series. A male protagonist and many female supporting characters who fall for him.

While quite banal and something you tend to see often in anime, what I enjoyed about “In Another World With My Smartphone” is that the main protagonist doesn’t necessarily refuse the girls.  Whereas, other harem anime, the male protagonist is too shy or doesn’t want to hurt anyone, so he avoids anything romantic, but does something to further their love for him.

But aside from being a harem anime, because it is set in a fantasy world and he is able to bring his smartphone from the Earthworld and replicate things (such as the ability to create things and have it materialize in the fantasy world) and also has awesome physical, magical and cognitive abilities.  So, he is no doubt a one-man army.

The thing is, the protagonist, Touya is a nice guy.  And he doesn’t know the fantasy world, so he teams up with the Selhoueska twins and they go out on missions where he helps people and is properly awarded.

With each area he visits, sometimes he brings in spirits or other characters that joins him on his quest and because of his bravery and kindness, the young ladies become attracted to him.

But as his group expands, we start to see the level of enemies grow and one may wonder if there are others like him?

The series doesn’t get to risque until viewers are introduced to the perverted android/like being, Francesca (towards the later half of the series).  But for the most part, it’s a lighthearted harem anime series that is not super-perverted or anything like that.

While the manga is still ongoing in Japan, the anime series ended with 12-episodes, so this is a short anime series which anime fans who love lighthearted harem anime and adventure stories can definitely enjoy, especially for those who have a disdain of jumping on a series that is too long.

Overall, “In Another World With My Smartphone” is an anime series worth checking out!
