Join Carly, Sam, Freddie, Gibby and friends in season 4 of the popular Nickelodeon series “iCarly” and once you are done with iCarly, join Kacey Simon and friends as they stand up to the popular bullies at their high school for five episodes from the new Nickelodeon TV series “How to Rock”.
Since 2007, “iCarly” has been a popular series for Nickelodeon. The series revolves around Carly Shay (played by Miranda Cosgrove) and her best friend Samantha Puckett (played by Jennette McCurdy) who are the host of their popular web show “iCarly” which is edited and directed by Freddie Benson (played by Nathan Kress) and assistant Gibby (as portrayed by Noah Munck).
Most of the scenes are shot at the home of Carly, who lives with her older brother and legal guardian, Spencer (played by Jerry Trainor). And the series explores the group coming up with content for the series but also showcasing the personal lives of these three individuals.
Carly is outgoing, cheerful and always there for her friends. Sam is the troublemaker who loves to eat. Freddie is the technical person of the group but also the person that can be targeted by Sam’s anger. Carly’s brother Spencer is young at heart and loves creating art, but despite being older, can be quite naive and find himself in trouble.
Created and executive produced by Dan Schneider (creator of series “Drake & Josh”, “Zoey 101”, “Kenan & Kel”, “All That”, “The Amanda Show”), “iCarly” is currently on its final fifth season and will be ending its run in November 2012.
Note: There may be confusion to this season being called the 4th season because Season 2 featured 45-episodes, because of the long number of episodes that season, fans have split Season 2 and called Season 2 and Season 3 and this volume which is Nickelodeon’s Season 4 has been considered by fans as Season 5. And the final season as Season 6. To avoid confusion, we are going by Nickelodeon’s actual title on the DVD, so what is considered as Season 5 by fans, we are going by Nickelodeon’s preference of calling it Season 4.
As for “iCarly” season four, this season focuses on how Carly and the show is being affected by Freddie and Sam’s relationship. Also, the “iCarly” crew receives a visit from the First Lady, Michelle Obama. T-Bo of Groovy Smothie tries to act differently in order to rent a room inside Freddie’s apartment. Meanwhile, Nora Dershlit, the crazy fan who tried to hurt the iCarly crew is up for being released from juvenile hall. And the iCarly crew is asked to speak to why she should stay or should be released. When Carly’s compassion leads to Nora’s release, Carly and friends will never be prepared for the outcome.   Also, what happens when the “iCarly” crew get a tour to the Canadian Fat Cake factory and Sam tries to smuggle Fat Cake’s to the U.S. , Freddie wanting to show his creative side on the show and what happens when the “iCarly” cast are interviewed by Christopher Cane (a.k.a. Rex of “Victorious”).

- EPISODE 85 – “iDate Sam & Freddie†– Carly is growing tired of having to resolve the problems in Freddie and Sam’s relationship.

- EPISODE 86 – “iCan’t Take It” – When Sam now uses Gibby as her punching bag (since she can’t hit her boyfriend Freddie), Gibby tells Freddie’s mother that her son is dating Sam.
- EPISODE 87 – “iLove You” – As Freddie and Sam continue to have problems in their relationships, Carly recommends that both try to get involved in each other’s hobbies.
- EPISODE 88 – “iQ†– Carly wants to impress a guy who is an intellectual. But what happens when she tries to pretend that she is one.
- EPISODE 93 – “iMeet the First Lady” – What happens with the First Lady, Michelle Obama visits the “iCarly” crew.
- EPISODE 90-91 – “iStill Psycho†– The “iCarly” crew must attend Nora Dershlit’s parole hearing and to decide whether or not she should stay imprisoned or be released. But what happens when they decide to give Norah a chance?

- EPISODE 94 – “iToe Fat Cakes” – Sam wins a golden ticket for a Canadian Fat Cake VIP Tour and brings the iCarly (minus Carly) to the tour. Meanwhile, Carly is preparing for her date but accidentally gets her toe stuck in the faucet of the bathtub.
- EPISODE 92 – “iBalls†– Freddie wants to show his creative side on “iCarly”.
- EPISODE 89 – “iBloop 2: Electric Bloopaloo” – Christopher Case (Rex on “Victorious”) interviews the “iCarly” cast and features their outtakes.
As for the fourth season, all eleven episodes will be featuerd on DVD along with five bonus episodes of Nickelodeon’s new show “How to Rock”. A series based on the book “How to Rock Braces and Glasses” by Meg Haston.
“How to Rock” revolves around the most popular girl at school, Kacey Simon (as portrayed by Cymphonique Miller) who has to wear glasses and have braces. And once she does, all her popular friends literally kick her out of the group, despite her being the leader. Now ignored and ridiculed by her former friends, Kacey now hangs out with a musical group known as Gravity 4 featuring Stevie (as portrayed by Lulu Antariksa), Zander (as portrayed by Max Schneider), Nelson (as portrayed by Noah Crawford) and Kevin (As portrayed by Christopher O’Neal).  Kacey joins the group as the lead singer and the band changes its name to Gravity 5.
But while these individuals aren’t popular or seen as a threat to Kacey’s old friends, who have their own band known as The Perfs, Kacey is determined in making sure Gravity 5 becomes a success. And that means going to war against her former friends.

- Episode 1 – How to Rock Braces and Glasses – When Kacey is kicked out of the popular group that she once led, now she finds herself hanging around a band. And together they form Gravity 5.
- Episode 10 – How to Rock a Lunch Table – Kacey wants her old table back, but the Perf’s have no desire of giving it up. Meanwhile, students are growing tired of the food being served.
- Episode 9 – How to Rock a Secret Agent – Kacey wants to prove that she is better than Molly, so she has Stevie going undercover to find out what Molly is wearing to the school dance.
- Episode 5 – How to Rock a Music Video – The Perf’s music video goes viral and become popular, Kacey wants Gravity to make a music video as well.
- Episode 2 – How to Rock a Messy Bet – Gravity 5’s hangout is very messy and with no one wanting to clean it, the group makes a bet that each must take on a challenge to give up their favorite habit. Last one standing, doesn’t have to clean.
VIDEO & AUDIO:
“iCarly: The Complete 4th Season” and “How to Rock” is presented in standard definition and in full screen. The series is presented in English stereo and dialogue and music is clear as it comes from the front channels. Dialogue is understandable and experienced no major problems during viewing.
There are no subtitles but closed captions are included.

It’s another season of “iCarly” and I now that in our household, my nine-year-old son loves the show and having to review the DVD’s, I find the series to be fun, entertaining and definitely much better than a lot of DVD’s that are typically targeted towards tweens.
One can look at season 4 as a season of maturity.  In this new season, the first half of episodes tend to focus on the relationship of Freddie and Sam. Two complete opposites and for three seasons, we have seen Sam usually making fun or punching Freddie for no reason, but this time around, she falls for him and he falls for her.
Unfortunately, both continue to get into arguments and rely on Carly to save them each time. And it starts to become bothersome.
Season 4 also features more Gibby and more T-Bo. Gibby has become a fan favorite because he is unpredictable, goofy but just fun to watch. T-Bo is usually the moronic character at the local restaurant that Carly and friends usually visit. So, I was surprised to see T-Bo become used much more than the typical one-liner that we often see him in the series.
With season 4, we also get to see Jim Parsons of “The Big Bang Theory” but also the First Lady, Michelle Obama. I’ve read that her two daughters are big fans of the show, and for the episode “iMeet the First Lady”, while I was happy to see the First Lady on the episode, I was a bit unnerved by the writing featuring Sam. Yes, we know she can be very rude but to interrupt the First Lady from speaking… Come on writers, at least let Sam show some respect to the First Lady. And T-Bo trying to hit on Michelle Obama, that was a bit awkward.
But this season definitely was fun. “iStill Psycho” was a hilarious and the two episodes are just crazy as we see Nora (with some “help”) having locked the “iCarly” crew in their home to never escape. And for “Victorious” fans, you also have Christopher Case (yes, the obnoxious Rex puppet from “Victorious”) interviewing the cast of “iCarly” and showing outtakes from the show.
And of course, after all ten episodes are done, you have five bonus episodes of Nickelodeon’s new series “How to Rock”. The five episodes of this series definitely has a “Mean Girls” flavor but also a musical touch ala “Victorious”. But in this case, it’s primarily the battle between the popular girls known as the Perfs vs. Casey, the former leader of the popular girls (and kicked out of the group because she has to wear glasses and have braces) and current lead vocalist of Galaxy 5, which has band members who are not popular.
As for the parents who are wondering if the episodes are safe for the children, while the series does maintain its fun atmosphere, older children will probably enjoy it. My nine-year-old loved it although he kept saying “yuck” during the kissing scenes but other than that, I didn’t see anything that would cause me any worry. The “iStill Psycho” may scary younger viewers but if anything, the show is targeted for tweens. While Carly and friends do run a hit online show, in their personal lives, these teenagers are being teenagers. Carly wanting a boyfriend, Freddie and Sam in a relationship and even Spencer having a relationship as well. Some parents may not want their children watching shows that include dating, kissing, etc. but “iCarly” does feature those type of storylines that revolve around relationships and dating.
Overall, “iCarly: The Complete 4th Season” was entertaining. Although short at ten episodes, fortunately, Nickelodeon included five bonus episodes of “How to Rock”. I like how the series has matured along with its characters and as the final fifth season is around the corner, I feel the maturation of the characters and the storylines compliment that journey. We have seen it before with other tween comedy series and for Nickelodeon, from “Clarissa Explains it All” of the ’90s to “iCarly” to the present, I have found “iCarly” to be entertaining, hilarious and fun!
“iCarly: The Complete 4th Season” is recommended for “iCarly” fans!
