The iCarly madness continues with Season 2, Volume 2! Included in this set – the hour-long “iFight Shelby Marx” movie special, Sam’s surprising confession of having shared a kiss with Freddie, Carly’s bad-boy boyfriend dilemma, and so much more!

Since 2007, “iCarly” has been a popular series for Nickelodeon. The series revolves around Carly Shay (played by Miranda Cosgrove) and her best friend Samantha Puckett (played by Jennette McCurdy) who are the host of their popular web show “iCarly” which is edited and directed by Freddie Benson (played by Nathan Kress). Most of the scenes are shot at the home of Carly, who lives with her older brother and legal guardian, Spencer (played by Jerry Trainor).

Created and executive produced by Dan Schneider (creator of series “Drake & Josh”, “Zoey 101”, “Kenan & Kel”, “All That”, “The Amanda Show”), “iCarly” is currently on their fourth season and earlier this year, the episode titled “iSaved Your Life” became the highest rated live action telecast in Nickelodeon history (with 11.2 million viewers) and the #1 telecast of all TV (cable and broadcast) that night. “iCarly” continues to be a hit for Nickelodeon as nearly five million viewers tune into the series each week.

Needless to say, the show is a big success for the cable network and for many fans who are patient enough to wait for the season/volume DVD releases of “iCarly”, “iCarly: Season 2, Volume 2” is here!   The following episodes are episode 39-52 (note: viewers consider episodes 51-52 as the first two episodes of Season 3).

Included on this DVD are:

DISC 1:

  • EPISODE 39 – “iLook Alike” – Carly, Sam and Freddie want to interview an MMA fighter Jackson Colt but Freddie’s mom forbids him to go to an MMA fight and also Spencer forbids Carly from going as well.  So, the three come up with an idea to find lookalikes to stand for them while they do the interview.
  • EPISODE 40 – “iWant My Website Back” – Spencer cancels his old credit card and gets a new one.  But since he changed credit cards, icarly.com didn’t get its domain auto-renewed and now their rival Nevel owns it.
  • EPISODE 41 – “iMake Sam Girlier” – Sam takes lessons from Carly on how to become more feminine and a better person.
  • EPISODE 42 – “iGo Nuclear” – Carly needs to do a project for Green Week and with the help of Spencer, he brings in a friend to help her make an electric scooter using nuclear energy.  But she doesn’t know that the uranium used for the scooter is illegal.
  • EPISODE 43-44 – “iDate a Bad Boy” – In this TV movie, Carly starts dating a bad boy named Griffin who tried to steal Spencer’s motorcycle.  Spencer prohibits Carly from dating him but she tries to sneak behind his back.  Meanwhile, Carly learns a major secret about her Griffin.
  • EPISODE 45 – “iReunited with Missy” – Carly’s old friend Missy Robinson returns to Seattle and wants to be Carly’s only best friend.

DISC 2:

  • EPISODE 46 – “iTake on Dingo” – Carly and Sam are concerned that the Dingo Channel is spoofing segments from iCarly.
  • EPISODE 47 – “iMust Have Locker 239” – Sam and Freddie are forced to share the school’s best locker.
  • EPISODE 48 – “iTwins” – Carly and Sam are known for pranking Freddie but when Sam’s twin sister Melanie (the total opposite of Sam) comes to visit, Freddie thinks Sam is trying to pull a prank by making up a fake story of having a twin sister.
  • EPISODE 49-50 – “iFight Shelby Marx” – In this TV movie, Carly was talking a little trash on her web show about the martial-arts champ Shelby Marx.  When Shelby comes to visit her, Carly is afraid that she is going to get beaten up but finds out that Shelby wants to join forces with Carly in a one round match for charity and that she will not hurt her at all.   But during the press conference, Carly accidentally falls on Shelby’s grandmother offstage and Nevel Papperman takes advantage of the situation and now Shelby wants to hurt her in the ring.
  • EPISODE 51 – “iThink They Kissed” – Carly takes Sam to the dentist for an emergency checkup and while under laughing gas, Sam tells Carly that she kissed Freddie.
  • EPISODE 52 – “iCook” – Sam and Freddie show their viewers on how to make “Spaghetti Tacos” and when Food TV invites them for an interview, they are unaware that it is a challenge to go against Ricky Flame in a “Food Fight”.

VIDEO:

“iCarly: Season 2, Volume 2” is presented in standard definition and in full screen. Picture quality is good considering there is one TV movie and four episodes included on the DVD. There is compression artifacting and edge enhancement but for the audience being targeted, I doubt many will be that picky over picture quality.

My young son and his nephew are huge “iCarly” fans and they enjoy the various DVD’s released throughout the year.  But these DVD releases are not in episodic order and are just a mix of episodes from a season of “iCarly”, so for some fans of the show, those preferring to have all episodes in order typically wait for the season DVD sets to be released.  The problem is, these season sets are released a long time after each other.  The first volume of season two was released in August 2009 and here we are now with the second volume released nearly a year and a half later.  But the fact that these season sets which have more episodes and cost the same (or just a few dollars more) as a regular iCarly DVD is pretty awesome.

With “Season 2, Volume 2”, you get the two “iCarly” movies “iDate a Bad Boy” and “iFight Shelby Marx” and ten episodes.  Each of these episodes are quite fun to watch and as an adult, the quality of the shows were much more in tune with today’s pop culture than some of the shows that I grew up with.  If anything, these are all enjoyable episodes that deal with teen issues, friendship and three teens having fun with their online TV show.

As for the parents who are wondering if the episodes are safe for the children, depending on their age, there is no major violence but there may be some content that parents may not want their younger children to see.  The episodes are not rated but for the concerned parents, there are two episodes that deal with martial fighters, in “iFight Shelby Marx”, Carly gets punched in the face and in “iLook Alike”, a fighter throws Spencer through a table.

In two episodes, Carly goes against her brother (legal guardian) when he tells her to stop seeing the bad boy in “iDate a Bad Boy” and finding lookalikes to substitute for them while they leave home without Spencer’s knowledge to interview an MMA fighter.  In “iReunite with Missy”, the troublemaker Chuck locks Spencer in a cage in the basement.  Granted, this show tends to not show the adults in a authoritative manner (especially with the behavior of Carly’s older brother Spencer and even Freddie’s mother).    Other than that, this series is pretty safe for your children, granted…they may pick up terminology which they probably don’t understand or know what those words mean.

Personally, the series and episodes featured on this DVD are nothing for parents to worry about but if the descriptions of those scenes that I have mentioned above causes concern, especially if you were considering of buying this for a 5-9 year old child, then parental guidance is suggested.

Overall, “iCarly: Season 2, Volume 2” was an entertaining DVD set featuring 10 episodes and two movies.  Again, my young son and my interview absolutely loves this show and he enjoyed watching the episodes (again) on DVD.  And if your children are as crazy for the show as they are, I’m sure they will enjoy this DVD set.
