Filled with original songs and exclusive extra scenes, this all-new Christmas special, available first on DVD, will become a holiday favorite for the whole family! When Swiper tries to swipe the Christmas Star from Dora’s Nochebuena Party, he lands on Santa’s naughty list. To get back on the nice list, Dora must help Swiper travel to the past, the present, and the future to discover the true spirit of Christmas. Will you help too?

It’s time for another Christmas special with “Dora the Explorer” in the new Nickelodeon DVD “Dora’s Christmas Carol”. The DVD version includes six minutes of additional footage that was not shown on television.

With Dora and friends preparing for another fun Christmas and await their presents from Santa Claus, Swiper the Fox steals the Christmas star and nearly topples the Christmas tree on all the food. Because of his bad deed, Swiper the Fox finds out that he has been put on the naughty list and will not receive any Christmas presents which makes Swiper the Fox sad. With Swiper sad, Dora wants to help him get his presents for Christmas.

Fortunately, Santa Claus gives Swiper a chance to right his wrongs by going on in adventures in which he finds the true spirit of Christmas. If he does a good deed, a Christmas card with a tree will have its missing ornaments and star will magically fill up. And if he accomplishes that, he will then get his Christmas gift.

But in order to accomplish those deeds, he will need help from Dora the Explorer and the grumpy Troll that lives under the bridge and will have to back to the past and into the future and visit themselves and do a good deed on Christmas but most importantly, Swiper must do all he can to stop himself from swiping on Christmas.

Watch as Dora and Swiper visit themselves in the past when Dora’s friends were still babies, also to visit the past when Dora was a little girl and to the future when Dora is a young teenager and Swiper is an old grumpy fox.

Will Swiper the Fox do all the good deeds needed to get his Christmas presents and can Dora prevent him from swiping any presents?

VIDEO & AUDIO:

“Dora the Explorer: Dora’s Christmas Carol Adventure” is presented in full screen format. Because it is a newer release and is a special, the programming has much more CG objects and backgrounds compared to a regular TV episode. Especially with the painted Christmas backgrounds and the CG generated grass. Audio is clear and is presented in Dolby Digital English Stereo.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

“Dora the Explorer: Dora’s Christmas Carol Adventure” comes with the following special features:

  • Jingle Bells Music Video
  • We Wish You a Merry Christmas Music Video
  • Young People’s Chorus Behind-the-Scenes Featurette – (2:31) Behind-the-scenes with Chris Gifford and how they would open the Christmas special and working with musical composer Peter Lurye and working with Francisco J. Nunez, the founder/artistic director of Young People’s Chorus of New York City and a few children from the Young People’s Chorus selected to perform.

EXTRAS:

“Holiday Gifts from Nickelodeon – Dora the Explorer: Dora’s Christmas Carol Adventure” comes with one coloring book, four crayons, a poster and sticker sheet.

“Dora the Explorer: Dora’s Christmas Carol Adventure” is a fun release for children and also parents who want to find DVD’s that can be educational for children. My young son literally grew up in his young toddler years watching Dora and through this series, it was very helpful in helping him develop skills on decision making and also learning a little Spanish. And I’m a true believer that these educational children’s shows is one of the reasons why he is doing so well in school. I can easily remember watching him and seeing him really get into the series and taking part in the challenges.

Where most of the “Dora the Explorer” TV shows have been instrumental in teaching children Spanish and counting as well as teamwork, the same can be said about this Christmas special. Young children can learn the benefit of Christmas, how well-behaved children must be in Christmas and also the benefit of doing good deeds (especially to avoid being on Santa’s naughty list).

If you enjoyed this Christmas special, to support the DVD and television event, this fall Nickelodeon will launch a consumer products line including a movie tie-in book, social expressions gift bags, gift tags and wrapping paper. Additionally, preschoolers can share the holiday spirit with Dora and her adventure-loving pals with Dora’s Christmas CD, distributed by Nickelodeon and Sony Music Entertainment. This perfect stocking stuffer includes 16 holiday songs performed by the world’s most beloved Latina heroine, Dora the Explorer. The disc features classic carols with a Latin twist, including “Deck the Halls,” “Jingle Bells” and “Santa Claus Is Coming Aquí!” The CD also includes bonus songs from Nickelodeon’s TV special, “Dora’s Christmas Carol Adventure.”

Overall, “Dora the Explorer: Dora’s Christmas Carol Adventure” is great for parents looking for a holiday DVD release for their young children. It’s a safe, educational DVD. I do wish there were more special features or another bonus episode as a Christmas bonus for the kids, but considering the low price, it’s a solid DVD and fortunately there are special features included.  This 2013 “Holiday Gifts from Nickelodeon – Dora the Explorer: Dora’s Christmas Carol Adventure” DVD comes with one coloring book, four crayons, a poster and sticker sheet.

It’s also important to note that there is no difference between the DVD release from 2009 and the DVD release in 2010 but this 2013 version does come the “Holiday Gifts from Nickelodeon” extras!

Definitely recommended for the children who love “Dora the Explorer” and for parents looking for an educational gift for their children to watch during the holidays.
