EVENT INFO:
The Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art at the College of Charleston presents a solo exhibition entitled Fahamu Pecou’s DO or DIE: Affect, Ritual, Resistance, August 26 – October 8, 2016. Fahamu Pecou is an Atlanta-based visual artist and scholar whose works combine observations on hip-hop, fine art and popular culture. Pecou is profoundly involved in exploring the state of Black existence – life and death – in his work. In programming connected to the exhibition Pecou will host an installment of interSessions: The Art X Hip-Hop Dialogues™, a series of curated conversations between figures from the arts and the hip-hop communities. The event will take place on September 9, 2016 at 7pm at the Recital Hall located in the Simons Center For the Arts. This session will feature Michael Render, better known by his stage name Killer Mike, an American hip-hop recording artist and activist, and Dr. Arturo Lindsay, an artist and scholar who conducts ethnographic research on African spiritual and aesthetic retentions in contemporary American cultures. This particular interSession will begin with an open forum between all 3 participants discussing the impact of Pecou’s exhibition. It will then flow freely as the participants continue dialogue around other subjects.
