Since 2005, “Ben 10” has been entertaining fans of the series.

The concept of the series has always been about Ben Tennyson, a boy who acquires an alien watch device, the Omnitrix, which contains the DNA of different alien species and allows Ben to transform into ten aliens and later on more aliens which are added to the Omnitrix.  Ben is involved in numerous adventures alongside his first cousin and best friend Gwen Tennyson and their grandfather, Max Tennyson while often at odds with Kevin Ethan Levin, a rival and friend.

While the first four series “Ben 10”, “Ben 10: Alien Force”, “Ben 10: Ultimate Alien” and “Ben 10: Omniverse” features on Ben, a ten-year-old and then as Ben as a teenager.

In 2016, the series went through a reboot featuring a younger Ben, Gwen and their grandfather Max.  Ben discovers an Omnitrix and realizes he has superpowers through the Omnitrix which he must learn how to control.

A total of four seasons have aired on the Cartoon Network and earlier in October 2020, the animated telefilm “Ben 10 Versus the Universe: The Movie” aired on the Cartoon Network.

And now, “Ben 10 Versus the Universe: The Movie” is available on DVD.

In the latest film, Ben is growing bored as he feels that things are becoming too repetitive and there is nothing that will give him a good challenge.

Despite his grandfather Max and his cousin Gwen telling him to be careful and to not drop his guard, the three get a call from Phil to travel to his house.

Phil explains that a meteor is heading to Earth and will destroy all life on Earth. Phil also delivers news to Ben, that the key that was used to unlock his Omni-Kix armor was actually in reverse and by turning it into its proper lock, it will unlock secret upgrades of his Omnitrix.

As a test to see how the Omnixtrix works, Ben flies into space to destroy the meteor and transforms into Jetray and also goes through a new upgrade with a new suit.  But while he is being monitored and is about to destroy the meteor, he somehow changes direction and enters a portal to a new galaxy and is put on trial by the Incurseans who thinks he is Vilgax (an enemy of Ben 10 from season 2).

Meanwhile, back on Earth, with a meteor hurling to space, who can defeat this meteor? This leads to Max, Gwen and Phil putting their trust in Ben’s rival, Kevin.

Featuring more Ben 10 craziness, adventures and action,  “Ben 10 Versus the Universe: The Movie” gives fans of the series something that fans of the original Ben 10 probably wanted to see, and that’s to see this connection between Gwen and Kevin.

As many who followed the original series, Gwen and Kevin met while they were younger, and would not see each other until they were adults and they became the series couple.

Many rooted for Gwen and Kevin to be closer together in the original series but with the reboot, it wasn’t known how Kevin would fit.  But with this animated film, Kevin plays a significant role.

While Ben, gets a major upgrade to his Omnitrix and we get to see him utilize his newfound abilities.

The DVD features a few special features mainly gallery-based but for the most part, this is a DVD for fans especially children that you want to keep busy for 70 minutes or so, while staying at home.

As a fan of the original Ben 10, “Ben 10 Versus the Universe: The Movie” offers the same amount of fun, action and usual hijinks that the series has consistently offered.  Granted, those who grew up with the original series and are watching the reboot, know the differences but somehow this new film offers longtime fans a sense that Kevin will finally become someone that is cooler and part of the team versus the rival.  Again, I’m not holding my hopes to high of this happening but if there was something from the old series, that I would like to see the new series, it’s to see this growth in Kevin and this positive change.

I also like how the film had Ben taking on one side, Kevin, Gwen, Max and Phil on the other…but how everything comes together right at the end.

Overall, if you are a fan of the newer “Ben 10” series, definitely give “Ben 10 Versus the Universe: The Movie” a try!
