What happens if the world’s mightiest heroes takes on a titan who has killed off populations throughout the galaxy?

This is the biggest Marvel storyline ever featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and also one of the most expensive films ever made (third most expensive film) at nearly $400 million to make! The film unites the majority of all MCU superheroes and “Avengers: Infinity War” is the most ambitious film made yet and fortunately, the most successful.

The film would earn over $2 billion in box offices worldwide and becoming the fourth-highest-grossing film of all time in the United States and its sequel is set for May 2019!

For now, people can enjoy “Avengers: Infinity War” which will be released on 4K Ultra HD, 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray and on DVD in August 2018.

Because so many things happen in the first sequence alone, it will be difficult to not spoil the film, so I want give a spoiler warning before I mention a brief summary.

The film begins with Thanos acquiring the Power Stone from the planet Xandar and his lieutenants Ebony Maw, Cull Obsidian, Proxima Midnight and Corvus Glaive intercepting a spaceship carrying the last survivors of Asgard.

On that ship is Thor, Heimdall and Loki and they want the Space Stone.  While Thanos subdues Thor, Loki unleashes the Hulk but Thanos overpowers the Hulk and defeats him.  Heimdall uses a last ditch effort to use his strength to send Hulk back to Earth using the Bifrost. And for doing that, Heimdall is killed.

Thanos is able to get the Space Stone after they try to torture Thor but then Loki then pretends to be subservient to Thanos but tries to kill him and in return, Thanos grabs Loki by the throat and crushes it.

While Thor vows to get revenge, Thanos and his lieutenants leave the ship and obliterates it.

Meanwhile, Hulk (Bruce Banner) is sent millions of miles back to Earth and lands in the home of Dr. Strange and gives him and Wong a warning that Thanos is coming.

As Dr. Strange and Bruce Banner are able to meet with Tony Stark and warn him of how he was responsible for the alien attack in New York City, they also explain what happens if Thanos gets all Infinity Stones.

But before they could think up a plan, Thanos’ lieutenants arrive on Earth determined of getting Dr. Strange’s Time Stone.

Meanwhile, in space, the Guardians of the Galaxy are flying in space and discover what looks like a warzone and colliding into their ships main window is Thor and he’s very much alive.

Can anyone stop Thanos’ quest to get all Infinity Stones?

VIDEO:

“Avengers: Infinity War” is presented in 1080p High Definition (2:39:1 aspect ratio).  The film looks magnificent in HD. CG elements are well-balanced with live action scenes and there is amazing detail when it comes to closeups. Outdoor scenes are vibrant, the colors are well saturated and black levels are nice and dark. But it’s important to note that there are many scenes that were purposely made to look gloomy and soft, but for the most part, the film looks fantastic in HD!

Of course, if you want the best picture quality, you can also purchase a 4K Ultra HD version of “Avengers: Infinity War”.

AUDIO & SUBTITLES:

As for the lossless audio, “Avengers: Infinity War” is presented in English 7.1 DTS-HDMA, English 2.0 Descriptive Audio, French and Spanish 5.1 Dolby digital Language Tracks.

The lossless soundtrack is quite immersive with great use of the surround channels and LFE via the subwoofer. Due to the large amount of action sequences, many times I felt the room tremble to my delight. Dialogue and music were crystal clear but I felt the surround channels were well done! Audiophiles for the most part, should be quite satisfied with the overall mix.

Subtitles are in English SDH, French and Spanish.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

“Avengers: Infinity War” comes with the following special features:

The direction that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films have gone is bigger and better.

With “Captain America: Civil War”, that was the first glimpse of seeing a lot of the heroes in one film, yet fighting against each other.  This time around, nearly all MCU superheroes (including the cast of “Guardians of the Galaxy”) are united to fight the greatest threat to the universe… Thanos!

I have been waiting for this film ever since I heard that it was inspired by Jim Starlin’s awesome limited series, “The Infinity Gauntlet” (1991).  Granted, the storyline focused on a character named Adam Warlock in the original comic book series, but because MCU films are different than the actual comic book storyline, I wasn’t really too sure how “Avengers: Infinity War” would turn out.

I can remember going to the theater, watching it and realizing how this was possibly the most epic superhero movie I have ever watched.  This was very interesting because back in the early 2000’s, there was talk about not doing anymore “X-Men” films because there were too many stars and it cost too much money.  So, the film series kind of went astray, granted those films or anything related to FOX’s Marvel films are not connected to the MCU films, the fact that “Avengers: Infinity War” was able to bring together so many of the MCU superheroes, many big stars together in one film, that was incredible.

Of course, also risky considering Disney was willing to shoot for the stars by creating one of the most expensive films of all time and even more surprising, it still came under the budget of 2015’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron”.

But watching this film and enjoying all these characters meeting all at once, seeing the humor of what we watch in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films included in this film and for the most part, characters from different films, just together and the chemistry was just right.

And it helps when you have antagonists that make a major impact within the first minutes of the film.  Immediately we see Thanos beating the Hulk up, we see one of Thanos’ lieutenants killing Heimdal and then we see Thanos grabbing Loki by the throat and crushing it.

Superhero deaths happen in the comics, character deaths happen in the comics, but we have not really been presented in major deaths in the MCU, so with a storyline involving Thanos, the writers had a chance to craft a storyline in creating many heavy-hitting death scenes and shocking audiences and also a scene that will make one shed a tear or many tears.

The film delivered when it came to awesome action sequences and I’m not talking about awesome like we saw in “Captain America: Civil War”, I’m talking about awesome in a grandscale!  Everything…may it be visual effects, sound effects, the music soundtrack and the immersive soundscape, really made this film one of the best films in video and audio to arrive on Blu-ray.  It’s that impressive!  Of course, for true video and audiophiles, then the 4K Ultra HD release is the way to go!

While I was impressed with the film, its picture quality and lossless audio on Blu-ray, if there was one thing that I wished that the Blu-ray release had and that was more special features, but that is me being nitpicky!

There really isn’t anything that I could really fault with the film, aside from one hoping we would see Hawkeye (Clint Barton) or the Ant-Man in the film (the no-shows are explained in the film, “Ant-Man and the Wasp”) and for those wondering why there were no S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, I’m assuming those viewers didn’t stay to watch and see what happens after the ending credits.

But this first part of “Avengers: Infinity War” was magnificent and one can hope that we see a consistent and awesome sequel for part 2!

Overall, “Avengers: Infinity War” has turned out to be one of the most awesome action-oriented films that I have watched in 2018 and having since watched it over again and again on Blu-ray, that’s how much I enjoyed this superhero film.

“Avengers: Infinity War” is highly recommended!
