Two New York City-bound travelers find themselves inextricably linked when a snowstorm reroutes them to an airport hotel in Buffalo. Ever the eternal optimist and hopeless romantic, Paige desperately needs to find a way back home to meet her fiancee’s parents before her forthcoming wedding. And it’s somehow up to fellow passenger Dylan MacKenzie, who is permanently soured on romance following a recent heartbreak. Yet Dylan somehow rises to the occasion to become Paige’s chivalrous helpmate. The pair are joined on this misadventure by an older couple named Frank and Maxine trying to get to Connecticut. As their madcap journey ensues, our foursome will find plenty of surprises in store.
We have reached day 26 of my holiday film marathon and today’s film is the Hallmark Channel’s 2015 holiday telefilm “A Christmas Detour”.
The film is directed by Ron Oliver and written by Mark Amato and stars Candance Cameron Bure (“Full House”, “Fuller House”), Paul Greene (“Bitten”, “Somewhere”, “Harry’s Law”), Sarah Strange (“ReGenesis”, “The L World”), David Lewis (“Man of Steel”, “Child’s Play”), Marcus Rosner (“Arrow”, “UnREAL”), Barbara Niven (“Chesapeake Shores”, “A Perfect Wedding”), Michael St. John Smith (“I, Robot”, “The Core”) and many more.
“A Christmas Detour” revolves around bridal magazine writer Paige Summerlind (portrayed by Candace Cameron Bure) who is traveling to New York to meet her fiance Jack (portrayed by Marcus Rosner’s) parents. Paige is so excited about meeting Jack’s parents and spending Christmas together that she can’t tell everyone about him and wants the first time meeting her soon-to-be in-laws to be perfect.
Meanwhile, Dylan Smith (portrayed by Paul Greene) is heading back home to New York for the holidays, which he hasn’t been home for some reason. But when Paige and Dylan are seated next to each other on their flight, Dylan finds out about the article she wrote for the bridal magazine (that was just released) and tells her he doesn’t believe in “soulmates”. Paige tries to convince him that she has did her research and true love exists. Needless to say, the two have very different points of views about love.
Also, we are introduced to a couple, Maxine Harper (portrayed by Sarah Strange) and Frank Harper (portrayed by David Lewis) who are not a loving couple, as they once were. They are heading to New York to meet their daughter and her husband for the Christmas holidays. Maxine hates the winter, while Frank likes it.
While everyone is headed to New York, their flight is re-directed to Buffalo and the four are stranded.
Paige begins to stress out because of the weather and is hoping she’ll be in New York in time to meet Jack’s parents and if she doesn’t meet his parents, their wedding can be delayed for another year.
As the winter weather continues to worsen, Paige becomes more desperate of getting to New York. Fortunately, Dylan is happy because the weather would be a reason for him to miss Christmas at his family’s home.
As the flights to New York continue to be delayed, Dylan rents an SUV and asks Paige and the Harper’s to ride with him as he is heading to New York. But as the four are on a winter road trip from Buffalo to New York, they get in an accident and are stuck in a Christmas-like village.
What will these four individuals discover while they are together stuck in this Christmas village? And will they get back to New York?
I’m quite familiar that Candace Cameron Bure has made numerous holiday films, and “A Christmas Detour” happens to be my first.
What a delightful holiday film this turned out to be as each of these individuals discover something special about Christmas, the holidays and love.
If you are looking for a romantic comedy, a holiday film about romance and “true love”, definitely give “A Christmas Detour” a chance!
