Ando Yuko, the model and actress is back with her latest CD single “Parallel” (her eighth CD single) showcasing her acting side for her latest music video.
It looks like things are looking up for the singer who had a hit last October with “Unabara no Tsuki” which made it into the Oricon top 20.
For “Parallel”, the CD single has become her highest selling single so far and the rock song has a beautiful feel as the piano and strings compliment the Ando’s beautiful voice.
The coupling song “Cecil wa Cecil” is a cover of the 80′s song by Hayase Yukako, another actress who became a singer. There is no modern musical version of this song, in fact, Ando pays homage to Hayase by singing the song in her style but the musical feel definitely stays with that 80′s style of feel but instead of those 80′s electronic drums, utilizing real drums.
The fifth track “Otanoshimi Chorus” is a short song, no music but showcasing Ando’s vocal range.
As for the DVD, this is where things get interesting as the music video for “Parallel” features Ando singing in a variety of emotions as the camera is close up on her and she is full of expression with her body and hands moving around in a Björkish style of way. And in the background, you see her drummer.
So, now I’m curious if Ando actually has this much emotional expression when performing live or this was just for the music video only.
The remaining 8 minutes or so are dedicated to the making of the music video. You get to see her right smack close to the camera and Ando chimes in on the video and making it.
The insert is just a bi-fold featuring the lyrics and production credits of the first two songs and a sheet containing Ando Yuko’s tour schedule for Ando Yuko LIVE TOUR 2008 which takes place between June and July 2008.
All in all, another solid CD single from Ando Yuko. She has still yet to break the Oricon top 10 but I get a sense that she’s almost there.
She has a beautiful voice and she’s multi-talented and I think she just needs that extra added tie-in, may it be through a Japanese drama (as a theme song) or CM.
But “Parallel” is a cool CD single from Ando and her performance of the song on DVD, really peaked my curiosity for her upcoming live performance.
