Avex has its share of music compilation releases and with their latest “1st ~debut single collection~”, listeners will be treated with the debut songs of Avex’s major artists from 1993-2005. The majority of the artists are from Avex’s avex trax, Cutting Edge and motorod label when they first debuted.

The latest compilation is affiliated with their online music store mu-mo and features a lot of good music within the last 12 years.

You get the beginning of the TK family domination with TRF, hitomi and globe featured. As well as notables such as m.c.A-T, Every Little Thing, Aikawa Nanase, MAX, etc.

All in all, you get their debut CD singles in one compilation but as much as you have all these great songs and artists on this compilation, many of you maybe wondering… Why aren’t Amuro Namie, Shimatani Hitomi, Koda Kumi, EXILE, m.o.v.e or Suzuki Ami on there?

Personally, I’m not sure if it was for budget reasons but possibly because of the following: Amuro Namie did debut as “Amuro Namie with Super Monkeys” not as a solo artist. Suzuki Ami’s comeback was on Avex but she originally was on Sony. Shimatani Hitom’s first CD single was an enka song, so possibly to keep things consistent, she was omitted. m.o.v.e is on the avex mode label and for Koda Kumi and EXILE, both are on the Rhythm Zone label and that label has released their own compilations. But then you have omissions for 1998, 2000, 2001, 2003-2004. What about Otsuka Ai?

The CD-insert features lyrics and online comment reviews from mu-mo.net purchasers on each artist featured.

All in all, the compilation is budget priced at Y1,800 and features awesome music from the debut of artists and bads from avex trax. You really can’t go wrong. If I was to be nitpicky, then I would have wished for an accompanying DVD featuring the debut music videos.

There are artists missing on this album that would have made it an A+ compilation but with Amuro Namie, Shimatani Hitomi, Koda Kumi and Otsuka Ai (to name a few) missing from the compilation, I just hope that there is a part 2.

But for the price and the artists featured, you can’tgo wrong with this compilation. If you want a good sampling of J-Pop’s top artists from the Avex label, definitely check out “1st debut single collection”

No Hamasaki Ayumi, either….! They must be saving some of the heavy-hitters for a follow-up CD!!

(I suppose it would seem a bit anti-climactic to release this volume as the second one, if that’s the case — not that there’s anything wrong with the line-up on here, of course!)
