The Yellow Monkey is a Japanese rock band that debuted in 1989, the name of the band is derived from an ethnic slur of what people referred to Japanese/Asians. The band is considered one of the Japanese rock bands that helped increase the popularity of modern Japanese rock music.
The band consists of Kazuya “Lovin’” Yoshii (vocals/guitar), Hideaki Kikuchi (guitar), Youichi Hirose (bass) and Eiji Kikuchi (drums).
The first time I heard “SPARK” was through the CDTV and just the chorus alone stayed in my head for days and definitely had to buy this single. It’s actually my first single that I purchased of The Yellow Monkey and I really dig the vocals and the music. The guitars are pretty awesome and it’s definitely an upbeat, rockin’ track! I dig the vocals of Kazuya Yoshii!
The coupling track “MOONLIGHT DRIVE” is another upbeat track and it has a western old school swank rock style to it. But overall a cool rock n’ roll track. The third track is the karaoke (TV-Mix) of the song.
Overall, a solid single from the band and if you are looking for a cool rock band from Japan, definitely give The Yellow Monkey a chance!
