Another exciting and fun CD single from the Japanese rock trio, The Pillows!
The band which consists of vocals and rhythm guitar Sawao Yamanaka; lead guitarist Yoshiaki Manabe; and drummer Shinichirou Sato on drums released their 28th CD single “New Animal” back in May 2008 featuring a total of three tracks and a DVD showing their love for their US fans.
The first track “New Animal” is an upbeat rock track featuring that beautiful balance between guitarists Manabe and rhythm guitarist Yamanaka.
The second track “Finger post of magic” is my favorite track on the CD single which is more or less a fun, humorously sung track by the band. Very catchy and I can imagine people singing along with the band during a live performance with this song. Awesome track!
The third track “Mr. Droopy” is another upbeat rock track with cool guitars and percussion. A definitive track from the Pillows that showcases their cool rock style.
As for the DVD, the DVD is a five minute video track. The first 2 minutes feature their US fans expressing their love for the group in black and white and then the remaining three minutes features the band performing “Mr. Droopy” live in concert and the band having fun in the US and taking photos for this CD single. An awesome video which fans who attended their concert and fan meeting at Anime Boston in March 2008 will definitely want to check out.
The CD insert features the lyrics and production credits with a small mini-flier promoting their summer 2008 album “PIED PIPER”.
With each release from the Pillows, I tend to give a favorable review and it’s not about being biased towards this band, it’s the fact that these guys create awesome music. They are one of the few Japanese bands that have managed to succesfully crossover in the US and also different parts of the world and manages to attract fans from all over because of their cool, fun and energetic rock music.
“NEW ANIMAL” is another CD single that manages to feature that catchy, energetic style of the band. I really love the track “Finger post of magic”. What a fun and awesome track! For those who attended their live performances during the Spring of 2008 especially those who attended their performance at Anime Boston, a lot of that footage is featured in the accompanying DVD.
Another solid CD single release from the band!
