SHORT LEG SUMMER is a rock band originally from Chiba that has that style of a band such as The High Lows and the fun rock humor and style of the ULFULS in one.

Lead vocalist Higashnio Hamaji has that 50′s pompador hair style, as does bassist Imanishi Danger, while guitarist Mr. Pinky (Misutapinki) Horiguchi dons the sunglasses and fedora and drummer Daisuke Handsome (or Daisukehansam)  all have that cool guy look.

The group made their indie debut in 2006, although Higashino was looking for band members since 2001 and Higashino has been performing for years and even released a CD single back in 1981.

SHORT LEG SUMMER officially made their debut with avex in 2007 .  But with the major label, the group had their first anime tie-in in 2008 with the opening theme song “炎のランニングバック” (Honou no Runningback) and ending theme song “Song of Power” for TV Tokyo’s “EYESHIELD 21″.

With their fifth CD single “Mukaikaze” (wind direction), the  song features an all-rock, upbeat track that has that vibe of a track from the HIGH LOWS and Higashino’s raspy vocals adds to the atmosphere of the overall track, along with the hard hitting percussion and clanging guitar-playing and overall bass groove.

With the last track having that High Lows style of feel, the coupling track “帰り道” is different and not so much yelling by vocalist Higashino.  The bass playing shines in this song and the guitar solos are pretty cool as well!  The track ends with a humorous banter between Higashino and a woman.

As for the DVD, the DVD features a music video for “Mukaikaze” and its one thing to have the guys in their 50′s style, biker-gang like pompador hair style but to feature a group of sumo wrestlers dancing and singing in the background.  Also, interesting to see how Higashino is so active as he holds the mic close to his mouth with both hands and sings like there is no tomorrow.  A very humorous video especially how Higashino goes against a large sumo wrestler.

The CD insert is a bi-fold with the lyrics and production credits.  Included is a mini flyer promoting the band’s summer live performance through Aug. and Sept. 2008.

All in all, although the CD single is short with only two songs featured.  The group is just a fun band to listen to and even watch.

The group delivers really cool rock n’ roll music but at the same time, the band just has fun even if it means poking fun at themselves or other things as you can see from their music videos.

All in all, a solid CD single from SHORT LEG SUMMER and look forward to the next release!
