Seiko Sumi – The Best of the Latest TV Drama Theme Songs for Piano (a J!-ENT World Groove Album Review)

October 22, 1997 by

Although it may be too early for a best album, “BPM ‘BEST FILES’” features the duo’s first six singles, coupling songs and songs from their previous albums plus additional bells and whistles in a bonus CD with music videos and a TV spot. Overall, a solid release and a great starting point for new fans of TWO-MIX.

In Japan, one of the most popular pianist is Seiko Sumi and what I love about this pianist is that she is willing to take on various genres, even hip genres to attract young listeners to become interested in piano.  Not only is she a pianist who will release a classical album but she’ll also release albums featuring piano of popular J-Pop songs.

My first time discovering Seiko’s music was actually for her piano renditions of the songs from the popular 1996 Japanese drama “Long Vacation”.  I absolutely loved her renditions and wanted to see what other types of albums she has done, and sure enough, a year later, I discovered “The Best of the Latest TV Drama Theme Songs for Piano”.

What I love about this album are her renditions of so many popular drama songs.  From Le Couple’s “Hidamari no Uta” which was from the Japanese drama “Hitotsu Yane no Shita 2″, Yuzu’s “Yume Jyanai” from “Futari”, Miki Imai’s “Pride” from “Doku”, ZARD’s “Eien” and “Kimi ni Aitakunattara”, SMAP’s “Celery” from “ii Hito”, “Forever” from the drama “Beach Boys”, Namie Amuro’s “Can You Celebrate?” from “Passion Road”, globe’s “FACE”, Mr. Children’s “Everything (It’s You)” from “Koi no Vacance” and more.

This is a fantastic album if you love piano instrumentals and you love any of these popular songs in piano form.

The CD insert features information on another Seiko Sumi release and identifying what drama the songs came from.

Overall, Seiko Sumi’s “The Best of the Latest TV Drama Theme Songs for Piano” is a fantastic release and if you love piano instrumentals, this one is an easy must buy!
