2007 & 2008 have been terrific years for pop artist Namie Amuro who dominated the mid-90′s, breaking records and winning multiple awards and being the first artist to have #1 releases in her teens, her twenties and now in her thirty’s. And she still looks incredible now as she did when she first debuted.
In 2009, Namie Amuro returned with her 34th CD single and another #1 chart topping single and has broken another record for a music artist to have a consecutive CD single in the top 10 for 14 years straight.
The first track “Wild” features music by T. Kura and michico and lyrics by michico. The track features a dance/R&B/club driven track and overall, a wonderful dance-inspired track featuring music all by T. Kura for Giant Swing Productions. The song features really good harmony with Amuro’s vocals and the music. The song is used as a commercial theme for Coca Cola Zero.
The second track “Dr.” is actually interesting. The music and lyrics are by Nao’ymt and I enjoyed the music for the song as it features really addictive dance grooves and beats but it has this chorus which the music transitions into that I just didn’t dig all that much. The majority of the track is actually awesome it’s just that I felt the chorus just takes you out of the musical’s addictive nature as it transitions from cool grooves and beats to this far out, “Bohemian Rhapsody” style of chorus and then transitions back. The song is used for a commercial theme for Vidal Sassoon.
As for the DVD, the DVD features both music videos for “Wild” and “Dr.”.
For “Wild”, the music video is directed by Caviar with creative director and planner Hidekazu “Kazoo” Sato. In the music video, we see Namie laying on a lunar surface with a moon right behind her. Then clips of her performing with background dancers sporting all black, tengu like helmet and noses. Overall, a pretty interesting, futuristic type of dance video.
For “Dr.”, the music video is an anime music video directed by Jumper Mizuaki with creative directing and planing by Hidekazu “Kazoo” Sato and Yasuhiko Shimizu. The music video features a doctor working on a project (visual reality girl) in A.D. 3000. The future of the world seems to be in bad shape. The doctor then unleashes the program in which a VR girl floats through time and then flies right into a girl standing on the beach. We are left with the message:
We return to change your past.
We hope for the future at which you are laughing.
Have a good future.
To be continued…
The CD insert comes with the music lyrics for the tracks and CD and DVD production credits. Included is a flyer for “BEST non FICTION 2009″ and a Vision Factory promotional.

Overall, “Wild/Dr.” is another solid CD single from Namie Amuro. I’m really happy to see her music back on the top of the charts and people enjoying her music again. I definitely loved “Wild” and for “Dr.”, I enjoyed the song a lot, especially the music but just didn’t care for the chorus. The DVD features two pretty cool music videos and I recommend getting the CD+DVD version if possible.
It will be interesting to see if she will continue to stay with this one single, one album release a year like she did in 2008 and focus primarily on her concert tour. But overall, I hope we get another exciting release from Amuro!
