Nakamura Ataru returns with another solid CD single with the theme song for the summer film “GeGeGe no Kitaro: Sennen Noroi Uta”. A single that showcases her ability to shift to different vocal styles and what makes her vocals so unique.
Granted, Nakamura Ataru is one of the most popular transexual artists and some songs, she has been able to make her vocals to be more feminine and masculine at times but nevertheless, she is a unique and very cool artist.
The first track “Kaze Tachinu”, used for the “GeGeGe no Kitaro” film is a beautiful, whimsical ballad driven by the piano and I found it quite interesting during our review on the “GeGeGE no Kitaro” album that the song in any format was absent from the original soundtrack.
Nevertheless, this is a passionate song that is just made beautiful with the string arrangement and overall passion felt in the music and Nakamura’s vocals.
The second track “迷い子” is another track with spectacular music with a whimsical, Spanish style of feel with the use of a gut guitar, wood bass, violin, quena and recorder plus Nakamura on the castanets and shaker. Not to mention another well-sung track. A solid coupling track!
The third and final song on the CD single “蒲公英～たんぽぽ～” is a song that showcases Nakamura’s talent as a vocalist and also an accomplished musician. This is primarily Nakamura playing the piano and singing a beautiful track and I’m always impressed by her own solo driven tracks. They are wonderfully done and this track is no exception.
The CD insert is a bi-fold with lyrics on one side and Nakamura on the other. Also included is a min-flyer promoting “avex trax GREATEST HITS” and a flyer promoting the “GeGeGe no Kitaro: Sennen Noroi Uta” film and soundtrack.
Personally, I feel that Nakamura Ataru is one of the coolest vocalist and musicians in Japan right now. Her music is typically dreamy, whimsical and has a substance that I’m just fond with the overall arrangement and how her vocals really compliments the music.
“Kaze Tachinu” is a beautiful track and definitely recommended for Nakamura Ataru fans!
