MinxZone is definitely one lucky band. From performing on the streets of Shibuya with vibrant costumes, the trio which consists of vocalist yukari, guitarist waio and drummer ayuha have come a long way and have now established an international presence with their music.

Having released an indie album and a few singles in 2001 and 2004, MinxZone has now released their first mini-album through Rhythm Republic titled “New Age Drive” which features a total of six tracks.

The first track “運命論” (which translates to Fatalism) is a pretty cool mid-tempo rock track. Catchy rhythm and cool vocals from yukari and definitely cool guitar playing from waio and percussion from ayuha.

The second track “New Age Drive” is a rock diddly featuring cool guitars from waio and is an upbeat track. But while this track showcases waio’s guitars, the third track “くらげタイプ??” (which translates to jellyfish type??) is a percussion driven rock track.

The fourth track “ビニール傘~それぞれの雨のち晴れ~” (which translates to plastic umbrella ~clear or rainy day~) is probably the best track on the album in music and vocals. The music is upbeat, happy and it works with the group’s overall music. More acoustic guitar-driven but it cool beats and cool vocals, the overall track works very well!

The fifth track “delete” is an upbeat rock track, another catchy rock track similar to “New Age Drive”. Featuring cool guitars and percussion complimenting yukari’s vocals.

The album ends with “Antenna” and a slow ballad that is well-performed. I definitely enjoy the musical arrangement for this track. Overall, a pretty cool, mellow ballad.

The CD insert booklet features lyrics to each song and production credits. No photos of the band, just artwork similar to the front cover but in blue and white.

Overall, “New Age Drive” is a pretty cool mini-album from MinxZone and hopefully it’s successful that we will see another album release from the band! Definitely an album and a band worth checking out!
