Belgium music artist Kate Ryan returned in 2008 with her fourth full length album titled “Free”.  I believe that Kate Ryan is one of the most under-rated music artists in the world.  Quite popular in Europe, may it be in Belgium, Poland, Germany, France or Spain…she tends to dominate the charts.

For those not familiar with Kate Ryan, Kate is a Belgian singer/songwriter.  Her music can be called “Euro pop” and she emerged onto the musical scene in Europe with her cover of Mylene Farmer’s “Désenchantée” and her first full-length album “Different” was a big hit, made gold and sold over 250,000 copies. Her music typically comprises of tracks written in French and also in English and for “FREE” you get a good balance of music in both languages.

The first track “Voyage Voyage” is such a beautiful well-sung track and a cover of the 1996 hit song by Desireless.  The music is just energetic and beautiful.  The track was Kate’s 13th CD single, her first CD single from “FREE” which was released with the song “We All Belong” (track 11).

The second track is “I Surrender”, a cover from a 2006 from the defunct female pop group Clea.  I was a bit surprised to see this song on the album since it was not too long ago that Clea released it but nevertheless, the cover is well done and a really cool, upbeat dance track.   The song is Kate’s 16th CD single, her fourth CD single from the album.

The third track is one of my favorites from my album and that is “Ella Elle LA (Radio Version)” which is a cover of the 1987 French pop hit by France Gall and a song that is a tribute to Ella Fitzgerald.  The song is Kate’s 15th CD single, her third CD single from “FREE”.  An awesome, catchy dance track and I simply love Kate’s vocals in this song.  Well done!

The fourth track “Who Do You Love” is cool dance ballad questioning her relationship with the person she loves.  Well, done and another catchy track that I just fall for the music and Kate’s beautiful vocals. Many of her songs such as “Your Eyes” (Track 5), “Take Me Down” (Track 7), “Sweet Mistake” (Track 9) fit in the category of well-done dance tracks on “FREE”.

The sixth track “L.I.L.Y (Radio Edit)” is Kate’s 14th CD single and her second CD single release from “FREE”.  “Like I Love You” is another catchy dance trick from Kate Ryan incorporates synth and electric guitar.

Track 8 titled “Put My Finger To It” has a pretty cool arrangement.  Definitely dig the overall track.  Upbeat but yet has somewhat of an old school type of feel to it.  Love the music on this track!

Track 10 is titled “Toute Premiere Fois” and features a cool dance track sung entirely in French.

Track 11 which was coupled with Kate’s “Voyager Voyager” CD single and is the theme song used as the anthem for “Eurogames 2007″ in Belgium and also a support song for gays and lesbians.  Overall, a cool catchy upbeat dance track.

Track 12 features a collaboration between Kate Ryan and Spanish singer Soraya Arnelas.  The song is absolutely awesome and I just love the vocals of the two women and the music overall is just beautiful and addictive.

Track 13 is the title track and is the ballad on the album.  A Mid-tempo and more serious track with positive lyrics in which Kate sings:

Life can be a miracle
Just let go of suffering now
And you will see
I keep on searching to find
a solution for this misery
Try to find what life’s supposed to be
I know it’s worth it
I will find the key eventually
You’ll see

I definitely enjoyed Kate Ryan’s album “FREE”.  Again, if you are a fan of well-sung, Euro dance pop music, you’ll may enjoy the tracks and that cool, body moving enticing groove.

I felt that this album featured really good tracks (yes, I know that some of the songs were from popular Euro tracks from yesteryear), but I definitely enjoyed her music this time around.

Outside of the cover tracks, there are a good number of tracks that I listened to repeatedly on this album.  “Tonight We Ride – No Digas Que No” with Soraya Arnelas is just awesome!

Definitely an album that I enjoy listening to and an album worth checking out if you are a fan of Euro pop!
