October 22, 2009 by

“BRIGHT’s second single showcases their pop and R&B sound and group dynamics.   But the DVD also features a music video with a cool dance intro plus  the quartet’s first live appearance in 2007 plus a short documentary of their first major live debut performance in 2008.  BRIGHT fans will definitely want to pick up the CD+DVD version.”

My first time watching the pop quartet BRIGHT was through a rhythm zone concert and with Tenjochiki in my opinion, so far being on the forefront of R&B pop quartets from the label, BRIGHT to me, was simply an idol quartet that being on the rhythm zone label separates them from other female groups on the avex entertainment flag which are more idol music geared while the focus for BRIGHT is more R&B/pop-based.

The quartet consists of Inoue Mizuki, Kobayashi Nanaka, Shigemura Nagisa and Nakaya Megumi and are graduates of the Caless vocal and dance school based in Osaka.

“Sorairo” is the quartet’s second CD single following their single debut “Brightest Star” in Jan. 2008.

“Sorairo” is more or less a pop R&B track written by BRIGHT and music by SiZK of STAR GUITAR.  Featuring an upbeat but yet smooth tempo ballad. The song showcases the quartet’s vocals and showing that they are not your typical female music group.

With the second track “My Girl”, the track features an upbeat pop, dance track produced and music by STY for Digz, Inc.  Featuring lyrics in Japanese and English, the track features R&B beats and for the most part, a solid track!

The third and final vocal track on the single is “Stay” and is an all English track written by Mark Elmer Stevens and Bobby Khozouri and music and production by STY for Digs Inc.   Although I dig the R&B beats, the English portion is very hard for the quartet and pronunciation is off on some lyrics but for the most part, it’s an OK track.

The remaining three tracks are the instrumental versions of the song on this CD single.

As for the DVD, the DVD kicks off with a music video of “Sorairo”.   The music video features a street dance version introduction by the quartet.  Overall, a pretty cool, sexy and sweet dance intro but I have to admit that it was a weird intro to start off the music video for “Sorairo” because both musical styles are quite different.  The music video features the girls standing and singing on their mic’s and footage of them chilling on the couch.

The second video is a live performance of the girl’s performing “Girls Party Time” at “Rhythm Nation 2007″ and was the first live performance I caught of the group.

The third video features the group at their January 2008 Debut Premium Live and is a 16-minute documenting the quartet’s performance.    Featuring their first major live performance on stage and vocal rehearsals and makeup and hair preparation and their tearful end when the concert was over.

As for the CD insert, the insert is a two-fold piece featuring a photo of the group on one side and the lyrics, production credits and a picture of each girl.

Overall, it’s good to see Rhythm Zone with two female groups that can sing and dance.  Tenjochiki from Korea and BRIGHT from Japan are fun groups to watch but for the most part, with this being an earlier released CD single, it’s great to see how the quartet has developed since the release of this single.

For fans of BRIGHT, this single pretty much gives you that glimpse of what the group is capable of doing but at the same time, definitely a confidence builder by getting a pretty well-produced single, music video and also giving the fans a chance to see them with their debut back in 2007 and their first major live debut in Jan. 2008.  An entertaining single that is made even better with the DVD, so make sure you get the CD+DVD version.
