alan’s “Kaze no Tegami” is her third “elements” CD single from 2008. A bit more mellower from her previous release but a good offering of pop and rock tracks plus a collaboration with the musicians of the band Camino.

One of my favorite vocalists coming from Japan right now is Tibetan singer alan (Alan Dawa Dolma). Literally, every CD single that she has released has been quite captivating as we get solid vocals, especially how she utilizes her Tibetan wail in her songs and occasionally we hear her playing the erhu.
In 2008, alan embarked on a five CD single “elements” music campaign. Her third single in the campaign “Kaze no Tegami” (Letter of the Wind) represents wind in the Japanese Godai and the Tibetan Bön. The single is her sixth single overall.
Similar to her last CD single “Sora Uta”, “Kaze no Tegami” is a pop track but is much more mellower during the lyrics but transitions to a synth beat-inducing chorus. Overall, a good song that works well with alan’s beautiful vocals.
The coupling track “Kagome” features a rock driven track in which alan collaborates with rock band Camino guitarist KIKU and bassist TAKA. “Kagome” continues the mellow feel like the last song but is more rock-based than synth. The song is then followed by the two instrumental tracks of the first two vocal tracks.
As for the DVD, the DVD features alan performing “Kaze no Tegami” with the band right behind her and is featured in black and white, while we see a montage of her dancing in pink as the breeze/wind slowly blows her dress and her hair. The second video features clips of alan recording the song in the studio, the making of the music video and various photo stills during the music video (which was used for the cover) and more.
Overall, another solid “elements” release from alan. Overall, the single is quite mellow compared to her last “Elements” single “Gunjou no Tani” but both tracks are beautifully sung and definitely showcases her talent as a vocalist. As for the DVD, personally I feel that the CD+DVD version is definitely worth it. You get to see alan recording the song at the studio and some behind-the-scenes footage of the making of the music video and the music video itself.
If you are a big fan of alan’s musical work, definitely another CD single worth picking up.
NOTICEABLE CONTENTS:
The CD single insert comes with lyrics and production credits for both songs. Plus a mini-flier promoting alan’s “elements” campaign.
