I just find it interesting how, in the past, I was more of a passive listener to the music of Janne Da Arc. But ever since JDA lead vocalist Yasu began his solo project via the band Acid Black Cherry featuring various talented J-Rock musicians, every CD single that I have heard has literally been awesome.

The same can be said with the fourth CD single “Fuyu no Maboroshi”.

The title track features awesome music and where you typically would get some really cool thrashcore riffs or some really cool serene guitar lines, the same can be said with “Fuyu no Maboroshi” but I notice that you also get a good dose of dynamic percussions. For some reason, the drumming is so pronounced that I found myself really just enjoying the drums throughout the track.

And of course, Yasu’s vocals were warm and charismatic as expected from him.

But the big surprise for me of this CD single was the cover of the Kudo Shizuka classic “Koi hito yoru”. This was definitely unexpected and it was cool to hear a rock rendition of this song, let alone to hear this song recorded and sung by a guy (note: SMAP did perform this song with Kudo Shizuka on an earlier TV show episode of “SmapxSmap” once before) and Yasu did a great job performing it.

The DVD continues with the humorous otaku nerdy guys played by Yasu and J-Rock musicians. This time, Yasu’s nerd charater is taken to the emergency room and hot nurses try to take care of him while his nerdy friends are frantic about their friend. Of course, during the course of reviving him, J-Rock Yasu lays on his hospital bed looking at the hot nurse which then turns to death. Does Yasu choose death or will he fight to stay alive?

And part of the attraction of the music video DVD is that the behind-the-scenes of the filming of the music video and also the recording of the song is included. And these aren’t short off shots, you get a good 13 minutes worth of behind-the-scenes shots.

The CD insert is a tri-fold with photos on one side and lyrics and production credits on the other. Two mini-flyers included promoting the first Acid Black Cherry album and the other promoting the band’s live house tour.

Personally, each CD single that I have listened to by Acid Black Cherry have received positive reviews and this fourth CD single “Fuyu no Maboroshi” is no different.

It’s another solid CD Single and another CD+DVD with a DVD that has a continuing storyline that shows the playful nature of Yasu and his music buddies and that they just have fun. Very evident in their making of off shot’s and always look forward to hearing more music from the band and seeing the adventures of the “otaku nerdy” guys featured on the music videos.

But all in all, another CD single featuring awesome music and vocals and another awesome release from Acid Black Cherry! Definitely recommended!
