Yelle – La Musique (a J!-ENT World Groove Digital Single Review)

Third time is a charm for French group Yelle.  Fans have been waiting two years for a new single and “La Musique” was definitely worth the wait!  Catchy, addictive and I can’t wait for their next single/album!

YELLE is back with their third single “La Musique”, the long awaited single since the release of their 2008 hit “Je Veux Te Voir”.

The group consists of lead vocalist Yelle (Julie Budet), GrandMarnier (drums, backing vocals) and Tepr (keyboards, backing vocals). Yelle was formerly an acronym for “You Enjoy Life” but was changed to Yelle after a Belgian band was using the name YEL.

The group came to prominence with their racy hit “Je Veux Te Voir” which was posted on MySpace back in 2005 and eventually would reach the top 5 in France.

The song was so popular that it even led to many people all over the world discovering the group and giving the group a chance to showcase their music on live television. And within the last two years, fans have been watching their MySpace and Facebook accounts to see when a new album or single will be coming out and earlier in the year, Yelle did confirm they had new songs coming out. And sure enough, we have “La Musique”.

And the only reason how I found out is when pop star Katy Perry began promoting it on her iTunes Bing account and that the single was available on US iTunes.

The single features a pretty catchy synth arrangement, flirty vocals and cool beats. A pretty cool track overall and I wanted more.

With a total of five tracks included in the digital single: original version, a DISCODEINE remix, a LORENZ RHODE remix, a TEPR remix and a Myd remix. Aside from the original version, the DISCODEINE was an OK synth remix but the third track, the Lorenz Rhode remix is the longest track on the single with a funky synth, meanwhile the Tepr Remix has a more retro ’80s synth style to it and concluding with the Myd remix with sticky drabs of cool beats while Yelle’s voice permeates through those beats. A cool remix!

Overall, Yelle’s “La Musique” is a pretty cool single but outside of the remixes, the original track is still my preference and the best track on the single. Just a catchy, addictive song and definitely worth checking out if you are a Yelle fan!
