“The Amazing Race” and “Undercover Boss” Picked Up for Broadcast during the 2011-2012 Season
CBS has renewed its Sunday reality series-THE AMAZING RACE and UNDERCOVER BOSS-for broadcast during the 2011-2012 season.
THE AMAZING RACE, hosted by Phil Keoghan, will make its 19th sprint around the world next season. The recent fall edition delivered nearly 12 million viewers, matching the prior year in viewers while posting gains in both adults 25-54 (+2%) and adults 18-49 (+3%), despite airing against “Sunday Night Football.”
The current edition of THE AMAZING RACE features a unique twist with the return of 11 fan-favorite teams who fell short of winning the million dollar prize during their first race around the world. It also marks the first edition of the show to be broadcast in high definition.
THE AMAZING RACE is a seven-time Emmy Award winner for “Outstanding Reality Competition Program.”
UNDERCOVER BOSS, which follows high-level corporate executives as they slip anonymously into the rank and file of their own companies, premiered last February following CBS’s presentation of the Super Bowl. In its first year, UNDERCOVER BOSS was the #1 new show of the season and earned an Emmy nomination for “Outstanding Reality Program.”
This season, airing against “Sunday Night Football” for the first time, UNDERCOVER BOSS remains a top 20 program in viewers, averaging 12.3 million and a 3.4/08 in adults 18-49.
Featured on this season’s UNDERCOVER BOSS were some of America’s best known companies, including NASCAR, the Chicago Cubs, MGM Grand, Subway, DirecTV, Mack Trucks, Chiquita and Frontier Airlines, as well as the Mayor of Cincinnati.

CBS’s Sunday reality series-THE AMAZING RACE and UNDERCOVER BOSS-posted week-to-week increases in viewers and key demographics, according to Nielsen preliminary live plus same day ratings for Nov. 21.
Note: Due to live sports programming on CBS (12 minutes of late-running football), ratings for CBS are tentative and subject to change.
THE AMAZING RACE 17 (6.9/11, 11.65m) averaged a 4.2/09 in adults 25-54 and 3.1/08 in adults 18-49. Compared to last week, THE AMAZING RACE 17 was up +15% in households (from 6.0/09), +11% in both adults 25-54 (from 3.8/08) and adults 18-49 (from 2.8/07) and added +1.31m viewers (from 10.34m, +13%). Note: The Fast NTI average includes 12 minutes of 60 MINUTES.
UNDERCOVER BOSS (7.1/11, 11.88m) averaged a 4.2/09 in adults 25-54 and 3.3/06 in adults 18-49 (3.3/06). Bosses from NASCAR, DirecTV, Great Wolf Resorts and Chiquita Will Go Undercover
UNDERCOVER BOSS, last season’s #1 new series, returns for its second season with some of the nation’s top executives hitting the front lines for an unfiltered look inside their own companies. UNDERCOVER BOSS, which is nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Reality Program, premieres in a special time period on Sunday, Sept. 26 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) before moving to its regular time period (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on Sunday, Oct. 3.
Among the initial companies whose bosses have signed up for the undercover mission include:
- NASCAR (Steve Phelps, Senior Vice President and CMO) – the sanctioning body for the #1 spectator sport in the U.S.;

CBS’s new reality hit, UNDERCOVER BOSS, continues to post strong ratings opposite the Olympics, placing second in its time period while THE AMAZING RACE 16 posted across-the-board increases from last week’s premiere, according to Nielsen preliminary live plus same day ratings for Sunday, Feb. 21.
UNDERCOVER BOSS was second in households (7.9/12), viewers (13.59m), adults 25-54 (5.8/12) and adults 18-49 (4.8/11). UNDERCOVER BOSS was Sunday’s number one entertainment program and topped an original episode of “Desperate Housewives” in viewers (vs. 10.85m, +25%), adults 18-49 (vs. 3.7/08, +30%) and adults 25-54 (vs. 4.5/09, +29%).
THE AMAZING RACE 16 was second in households (5.2/08), viewers (9.09m), adults 25-54 (3.7/08) and tied for second in adults 18-49 (2.9/07, with FOX). The Premiere of “The Amazing Race 16″ Posts Year-to-Year Demo Gains
THE BIG BANG THEORY, TWO AND A HALF MEN, NCIS, NCIS: LOS ANGELES, THE GOOD WIFE, the time period of UNDERCOVER BOSS and the season premieres of SURVIVOR and THE AMAZING RACE all posted strong ratings, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for the Olympic-driven week ending Feb. 14, week 21 of the 2009-2010 television season.
On the comedy front, THE BIG BANG THEORY and TWO AND A HALF MEN were the week’s top scripted programs in adults 18-49. THE BIG BANG THEORY hit series highs in all key ratings measures while TWO AND A HALF MEN delivered its best viewer total and adults 25-54 rating since Dec. 2008, and best adults 18-49 rating since February 2007. Additionally, THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE attracted its largest Wednesday audience.
NCIS and NCIS: LOS ANGELES were the week’s top two dramas, followed by THE MENTALIST, THE GOOD WIFE, CRIMINAL MINDS, CSI: MIAMI and CSI: NY.
In all, CBS had the top seven scripted programs and nine of the top 10 scripted programs overall.
CBS’s three reality series all posted impressive ratings. UNDERCOVER BOSS more than doubled its time period’s season average in key demos, posting the time period’s best adults 18-49 delivery with regularly scheduled programming since November 2004. THE AMAZING RACE 16 posted year-to-year gains in key demos while SURVIVOR premiered with its largest audience since 2007.
For the week in viewers: CBS (10.64m), NBC (16.08m), FOX (10.11m) and ABC (6.62m). Season-to-date, CBS is first in viewers (12.50m), ahead of FOX (9.93m), ABC (8.69m) and NBC (7.91m).

THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE was first in households (5.0/08), second in viewers (8.10m) and adults 25-54 (3.0/08) and tied for second in adults 18-49 (2.3/07, with FOX, -0.1 behind ABC). THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE posted its best Wednesday delivery in viewers ever; it also notched its best households since December 10, 2008, and best adults 25-54 and adults 18-49 since December 16, 2009.

NCIS was second in households (11.8/18), viewers (19.75m), adults 25-54 (5.6/13) and adults 18-49 (4.1/11). Compared to last week, NCIS was up +3% in households (from 11.5/17) and added +520,000 viewers (from 19.23m, +3%).
NCIS: LOS ANGELES was first in households (10.9/16) and viewers (17.91m), second in adults 25-54 (5.3/12, -0.1 behind ABC) and adults 18-49 (4.1/10). NCIS: LOS ANGELES posted its best households, viewers and adults 25-54 delivery since January 5, 2010, and best adults 18-49 performance since November 24, 2009.
