250,000 fans from over 35 countries vote for Rickie Fowler and Rory McIlroy to share cover with Tiger Woods for “Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13″

Sure, Tiger Woods has been having a tough year (or tough few years) but he has a popular EA Sports video game named after him.  So, what’s next?

Well, EA Sports just announced that professional golfer Rickie Fowler and Rory McIlroy will be sharing the cover with Tiger for “Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13″ for the North America and European release..

It was actually a close campaign as fans took to Facebook to vote for who should be on the cover and 250,000 people from over 35 countries voted.

According to EA Sports, Rickie Fowler defeated Bubba Watson by a final margin of 52% to 48% to win the American side of the bracket, while Rory McIlroy defeated Luke Donald by a final margin of 54% to 46% to win the European side.

“Over the past several weeks we’ve been thrilled to witness the passion of our fans for this competition as well as the golfers who have actively rallied their fan base for this unique honor,” EA SPORTS Marketing Director Craig Evans said. “Fan engagement has been critical to the development and success of the Tiger Woods PGA TOUR franchise over the past decade and it’s great to see so many fans excited about the cover vote and Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 13.”

“Appearing on the cover of Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 11 was an amazing experience and helped introduce me to a whole new fan base around the world,” Rory McIlroy said.

“But this year holds special meaning because it was the fans who decided to put me on the cover once again.”

“For someone that grew up playing Tiger Woods PGA TOUR and is a huge fan of the franchise, this is a great moment in my career,” Rickie Fowler said.

“I’m excited to join Tiger on the cover of this year’s game and want to especially thank all of my fans who spread the word and voted for me.”

As for Tiger Woods, Woods said, “There have been a number of great young and up-and-coming golfers to join the sport over the last few years and Rickie Fowler and Rory McIlroy are certainly on that list.  Their wins are a testament to their passionate fan base and I’m looking forward to having Rickie and Rory join me on the cover of Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 13.

As for “Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13″, fans will get to play on the hallowed grounds of the Augusta National Golf Club and will feature all-new experiences around Tiger Woods’ memorable golf accomplishments and will be the first controller-free, voice-enabled and body tracking sports simulation game to support the Kinect™ motion control system for the Xbox 360® videogame system from Microsoft.

And for the hardcore fans, there will also be a “Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 13: The Masters Collector’s Edition” available as well.  This collector’s edition will have its own unique box art and expanded features including all the courses and features available in the standard edition, plus five additional golf courses, Augusta National’s world-class Tournament Practice Facility, and much more.

Tiger Woods pays his respect to Seve Ballesteros

Spanish golf great Seve Ballestereos (54) passed away on Saturday morning after a battle with cancerous brain tumor.

Tiger Woods has tweeted the following message:

I was deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Seve Ballesteros. I always enjoyed spending time with him at the Champions dinner…each year at the Masters. Seve was one of the most talented and exciting golfers to ever play the game…

His creativity and inventiveness on the golf course may never be surpassed. His death came much too soon.

 

Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren’s divorce is final

Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren’s divorce is final. The two released the following joint statement:

“We are sad that our marriage is over and we wish each other the very best for the future. While we are no longer married, we are the parents of two wonderful children and their happiness has been, and will always be, of paramount importance to both of us. Once we came to the decision that our marriage was at an end, the primary focus of our amicable discussions has been to ensure their future well-being. The weeks and months ahead will not be easy for them as we adjust to a new family situation, which is why our privacy must be a principal concern.”

Tiger Woods interviewed by the Golf Channel: “It’s hard to believe that was me, looking back on it now.”

Tiger Woods was recently interviewed by the Golf Channel in regards to his infidelity and his accident. Here are a few excerpts from the interview:

In regards to what happened to him: “I quit being a Buddhist, and my life changed upside down. I felt entitled, which I had never felt before.”

In regards to being a punchline: “It was hurtful, but then again you know what, I did it. I’m the one who did those things and looking back on it now with a more clear head, I get it. I can understand why people will say these things because you know what, it was disgusting behavior. As a person, it’s hard to believe that was me, looking back on it now.”

Tiger Woods gives an apology

Tiger Woods gave his statement/apology early Friday morning. The popular golfer engulfed in a myriad of alleged sexual affairs and media scrutiny said:

I want to say to each of you simply and directly: I am deeply sorry for my irresponsible, selfish behavior… I know people want to find out how i could be so selfish and so foolish. People want to know how I could have done these things to my wife Elin and to my children. And while I have always tried to be a private person, there are some things i want to say, Elin and I have started the process of discussing the damage caused by my behavior. My real apology .. will come from my behavior. We have a lot to discuss. What we say to each other will remain between the two of us.

Tiger Woods to give apology on Friday

In a statement by Tiger Woods’ spokesperson and his agent, the golfer is ready to apologize and discuss his past and future in a press conference on Friday.

According to the statement obtained by the Bloomberg News, “Tiger Woods will be speaking to a small group of friends, colleagues and close associates at 11:00 a.m. EST Friday at the TPC Sawgrass Clubhouse in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Tiger plans to discuss his past and his future and he plans to apologize for his behavior.”

Mark Steinberg, Woods’ agent said, “Tiger feels as though it’s time to make amends and to publicly do that.”

Woods will not answer any questions and only a few media will be allowed to observe
