Hip Hop Trio HOME MADE KAZOKU will digitally release their 6th original full album “AKATSUKI”, including single “FREEDOM” (ending theme for NARUTO Shippuden)!
HOME MADE KAZOKU made their U.S. debut in the summer of 2010 at OTAKON, gathering 5,000 fans from all across the country.
Following year in 2011, the group made their Asia debut in Taiwan and released new album “AKATSUKI”.
AKATSUKI (meaning dawn in English) features a rich variety of 12 songs from Hip Hop, Latin, to Electro, including singles “Nukumori” (featuring model Yukina Kinoshita in the music video) and “FREEDOM” (ending theme for NARUTO Shippuden).
On October 9, 2011, HOME MADE KAZOKU gathered various artists from T.M.Revolution to FLOW, and hosted “KAZOKU Fes. 2011” in their home town, Aichi Prefecture.

A Hip Hop trio, consisting of members MICRO（MC）、KURO（MC）、and U‐ICHI（DJ）.
The group’s May 2004 debut from Ki/oon Records /Sony Music Entertainment Japan Inc. won acclaim as the best upcoming artist of the year on the Japanese music scene. Micro is widely referred to as a “soul rapper” because of his husky, powerful voice. Kuro adds a deep, whispering rap which gives life to the lyrics. Combined with U-Ichi’s DJ skills, their positive, heartwarming music has caught many listeners’ ears.
Vocalists Micro and Kuro are originally from the United States. Micro spent a part of his childhood in Kentucky, while Kuro lived in Chicago until he was 12.
Their first full-length album, Rock the World, achieved #5 on the Oricon national chart, with over 300,000 sa les, and spent an amazing two months in the Best20s.
Home Made Kazoku created a buzz with their tracks featured as theme songs on many hit anime series, such as Psalms of Planets Eureka Seven (“Shonen Heart”), NARUTO (“Shooting Star”). Their third album, Thank You!!, hit #5 on the Oricon chart.
Following their fourth album, Home, which including the lead track “No Rain No Rainbow” (the theme song of NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: The Movie, “Kizuna”), Home Made Kazoku headlined their first tour in Japan, including a sold-out show at the Budokan in front of more than 10,000 fans.

Formed in 1996 through their music club in college.
Released their 1st album “Hokai Amplifier” in 2002 from an indie label.
In April 2003, “Hokai Amplifier” was exceptionally re-released from Ki/oon Records, making their major debut. By summer, the band played FUJI ROCK Festival and SUMMER SONIC.
Same year, the band launched “NANO-MUGEN Festival” at Shinjuku LOFT. Joined by international artists from 2004 including Ben Folds, Third Eye Blind, and Stereophonics, the festival gradually expanded and shifted its venue to Budokan, and then to Yokohama Arena.
Starting with their first overseas performance at Korea’s music festival “INCHEON PENTAPORT ROCK FESTIVAL”, they appeared in 10 summer rock festivals all over Japan in 2007.
In 2008, they shared the stage with WEEZER at “WEEZER FESTIVAL” for both Tokyo and Osaka shows.
On June 23, 2010, they released their 6th original album “Magic Disk” achieving No.2 at the ORICON chart.
The band has released a total of 9 albums and 15 singles selling 2.5million units.

With three of the members of ZONE reuniting this summer, Sony Records pays tribute to the band by having a few of Japan’s all female rock bands and idol groups singing covers of ZONE songs. Featuring SCANDAL, Stereopony, ClariS, Yaginagi and more, “Zone Tribute ～君がくれたもの～ ” is a tribute album worth checking out.

Back in 2001, a band consisting of four young teenage girls from Sapporo, Japan captured the attention of many listeners in Japan with their third CD single, “SECRET BASE ~Kimi ga kureta mono~ (those to which you give)”.
Granted, the young female band and idol stereotype is not rare with other current young female bands in Japan such as Whiteberry and Cheez. What this group has accomplished unlike the aforementioned groups is to have a #1 single which stayed in the top five of the Oricon Daily Ranking for several weeks.
At the time, the group consisted of Takayo (vocals and guitar), Mizuho (vocals and drums), Miyu (vocals and guitar) and Maiko (vocals and bass) and within four years later, the group decided to disband.
While the band was formed back in 1999, their official debut was in 2001 and with news that three of the members are reuniting once again, Sony Records has released the tribute album “Zone Tribute ～君がくれたもの～ ” which features the current female artists, bands and groups performing ZONE songs.
The good news is that each of these artists are performing it their own way, their own style.
From the otaku duo ClariS (who once sung covers of Vocaloid songs and submitted them on Nico Nico Douga before being signed to SME Records) singing the band’s 10th single “true blue” ala straight j-pop, Tomato n’ Pine known for their electronic musical style singing the band’s 6th single “Yume no Kakera” to solo artist Shoko Nakagawa performing her cover of ZONE’s ninth single “Shiroi Hana” and rock band SCANDAL (who is looked at as the current successor of ZONE) performing the group’s 4th single and top hit “Secret Base ~Kimi ga Kureta Mono” and a faithful cover of the track.
Rock band Stereopony performs the track “Akashi” and giving an upbeat edge to the song, while idol group bump.y gives a more electronic/pop sound to the group’s 13th single “Sotsugyo” and seiyuu group Sphere performing the band’s 14th single “Glory colors ~Kaze no Tobira~”.
You also have non-Sony artists involved in the tribute such as Avex idol group Tokyo Joshi Ryu gives funky rendition of ZONE’s 12th single “Boku no Tegami”, artist Yanaginagi performing the group’s ballad “Hitoshizuku”and the album ends with female idol group PEACEFUL performing “GOOD DAYS”.
But when it comes to compilation albums. It’s all subjective. ZONE is a rock band but hearing electronic or sugary J-Pop versions of their songs may not be for everyone. Some may enjoy covers that are rock-based such as songs from SCANDAL and Stereopony.
But for the most part, you do get a wide range of covers for ZONE songs and different styles of music. What you would expect from a tribute album.
As for the CD booklet, there are lyrics, photos and information about the artist/group/band. Plus a mini flier for the return of ZONE and their live performance.
Overall, “Zone Tribute ～君がくれたもの～ ” was a pretty cool tribute album because I am familiar with the talent featured on the album and they come different music genres, so for them to sing covers of ZONE songs was quite interesting. If there was anything I wished was on this album was that it had more songs than 10. ZONE had released more than ten singles, so it would have been nice to have more songs. And the fact that the three members are featured ala photograph in this tribute album, perhaps a new song would have been a nice inclusion to this album.
But still, if you are a big fan of ZONE, it’s a fun album, especially to hear SCANDAL cover “SECRET BASE ～君がくれたもの～”, Yaginagi doing a cover of “一雫”, as well as hearing Stereopony, ClariS and others on this album make it worth checking out! If you are open to covers, then definitely give “Zone Tribute ～君がくれたもの～ ” a try!

While Japanese music compilations are common place in Japan, you usually see ’90s and songs from the the 2000s but rarely many ’80s songs included with ’90s and 2000s songs, so “Power Songs” was a bit of a surprise. And for those who don’t own any ’80s hits in their Japanese music collection may want to take a look at this latest compilation from GT Music!

The latest music compilation in Japan from GT Music actually was quite a surprise. With a lot of compilations primarily focusing on the ’90s and 2000′s, “Power Songs” focuses on the ’80s through the ’2000s and it’s probably one of the coolest compilations feature a good blend of ’80s and ’90s J-Pop which is actually quite rare to see in Japan. You either get all ’80s or all ’90s, so to hear TRF’s “survival dAnce ~no no cry more~”, Sharan Q’s 1995 hit “Sora wo Mina yo”, Anzen Chitai frontman Koji Tamaki’s 1996 hit “Denen”, former ’80s idol Chisato Moritaka’s 1996 hit “La La Sunshine” and D-51′s 2005 hit “NO MORE CRY” as modern hits. But then you then get cool ’80s hits such as Motohiro Sano’s 1981 hit “Someday”, Go Hiromi’s 1984 hit “2億4千万の瞳 -エキゾチック・ジャパン-” (which I have always shortened the title to “Exotic Japan”, Misato Watanabe’s 1986 hit “My Revolution”, TM Network’s 1987 hit song “Get Wild”, Takako Okamura’s 1987 hit “Yume wo Akiramenaide”, Princess Princess’ 1989 hit “Diamonds” and many more! Personally, It’s hard to review compilations because the artists featured are subjective to those listening and whether or not they like the music as you get rock and pop music. But for me, having reviewed many J-pop compilations, it’s pretty cool when you do get older music from the ’50s -’80s included in newer, modern compilations. In this case, you do get a few ’80s hits but still, that’s a pretty cool in my book and for those who don’t own any Japanese music hits from the ’80s, then these compilations really are worth getting. The CD comes with a lyrics booklet for each song with information on the song and the artist. Overall, this compilation album has something for everyone but will probably appeal mostly to those who appreciate Japanese music hits from the last 35-years.
