KILL THE NOISE RELEASES “KILL KILL KILL EP” ON OWSLA TODAY

UTTER BASS DESTRUCTION COMMENCES WITH 6 ORIGINALS AND 4 REMIXES FROM DILLON FRANCIS, ALVIN RISK, BROWN & GAMMON, AND KOAN SOUND
Today OWSLA proudly announces it’s 7th release, this time from LA’s Kill The Noise. A prominent contributor to the label’s sterling catalog with remixes on both Porter Robinson’s Spitfire EP and KOAN Sound’s Funk Blaster EP, the man born Jake Stanczak delivers an assertive lesson in cinematic, cross-genre EDM with the Kill Kill Kill EP.
KTN’s landscapes each have an undertone of boundary-pushing futurism. Stoked by the intermittent sounds of thousands of cheering, riotous revelers, each track- regardless of sub-genre (the album spans many)- shares a reliance on the blistering bass that has come to typify OWSLA releases. Alvin Risk, Dillon Francis, Brown & Gammon and label alums KOAN Sound share remix duties, polishing and re-imagining the music while pushing the EP into album territory.

MASTERWORKS BROADWAY ANNOUNCES FALL 2011 RELEASES
October 19, 2011 by J!-ENT · Leave a Comment
Forgotten Classics Available For The First Time
As Disc-On-Demand and Digital Download
MASTERWORKS BROADWAY, recently praised by the Wall Street Journal for its ongoing reissue campaign, continues to make good on its promise to open its vaults with more classic cast recordings previously unavailable in the CD era. Babes in Arms (1951 Studio Cast) and Blackbirds of 1928/Shuffle Along (1953 Studio Cast) are joined by a new reissue of Stephen Sondheim’s Follies in Concert (1985 Concert Cast) and the first digital release of Jerry Herman’s TV musical Mrs. Santa Claus (1996 TV Soundtrack). All releases will be accompanied by new album pages and photos on MasterworksBroadway.com.
Babes in Arms was the first serious attempt to record one of the most successful, hit-laden original Broadway scores created by composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist Lorenz Hart. The decision was an interesting one, coming at the height of the popularity of Rodgers’ second, more famous collaboration with Oscar Hammerstein II – and at a time when old Broadway musicals were generally considered to be quaint but hopeless relics. For this recording, which honors the original score and generally follows the original order of the songs, the label sought the insurance of featuring a big star in Mary Martin, then shining brighter than ever following the success of South Pacific. The Columbia recording, also starring Jack Cassidy and Mardi Baynee, was produced by Goddard Lieberson under Lehman Engel’s direction. The October 24 release, the first authorized since the LP era using the original mono master, will be available as a digital download and as disc-on-demand, with the original cover art and new liner notes, via Arkivmusic.com and Amazon.com.
In celebration of the acclaimed new Broadway production of Stephen Sondheim’s Follies, a new 2-CD eco-friendly softpack of Follies in Concert will be released on October 24. Recorded live at Avery Fisher Hall in New York City on September 6 -7, 1985, Follies in Concert finally gave one of Sondheim’s most ravishing scores it’s complete due, and revealed the previously neglected show as a masterwork of the American musical theater. Featuring an all-star cast recruited by the composer, Follies in Concert quickly passed into theatrical legend and is now referred to in the same manner as a major historical event. The reissue also includes Stephen Sondheim’s score to the film Stavisky.
The 1953 studio recordings of songs from the pioneering all-black musicals Shuffle Along (1921) and Blackbirds of 1928 (1928) are the only representations of these landmark scores in their original context. Shuffle Along introduced the Eubie Blake-Noble Sissle hit “I’m Just Wild About Harry,” and Blackbirds of 1928 gave the songwriting team of Jimmy McHugh and Dorothy Fields their first Broadway success with such classics as “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love” and “Diga-Diga-Doo.” Eubie Blake conducts and plays piano on the four songs from Shuffle Along, featuring Thelma Carpenter and Tony nominee Avon Long. Carpenter and Cab Calloway share the four songs from Blackbirds of 1928, with Lehman Engel conducting. The November 15 release of these recordings is the first using the original masters and will be available as a digital download and as disc-on-demand, with the original cover art and new liner notes, via Arkivmusic.com and Amazon.com.
Just in time for the holidays, Masterworks Broadway digitally reissues the soundtrack to the 1996 Yuletide television special, Mrs. Santa Claus on November 15. The holiday film reunited Broadway composer Jerry Herman with Angela Lansbury who had glittered in two of his musicals, Mame and Dear World. Set in 1910, the show chronicled the misadventures of Santa’s wife (or Mrs. North as she whimsily called herself) who, having failed to convince her husband that he should take a rest, decides to drive his sleigh herself on Christmas eve. With a cast that included Charles Durning, Michael Jeter and Terrence Mann, the Hallmark presentation provided Jerry Herman with a renewed opportunity to write catchy songs, most notably for his star, who delivered with her usual gusto such lilting tunes as “Mrs. Santa Claus,” “Almost Young,” and “Whistle.”
Masterworks Broadway is a label of Sony Masterworks. For email updates and information on Masterworks Broadway please visit www.masterworksbroadway.com.
MAJOR LAZER RETURNS WITH ‘ORIGINAL DON’ EP COMING NOVEMBER 1st!
October 18, 2011 by J!-ENT · Leave a Comment
“Producers Diplo and Switch, a.k.a. Major Lazer, definitely do JA right.” – ROLLING STONE
In 2009, the musical force that is Major Lazer descended upon the masses with what has become some of the most iconic sounds and songs of the past decade. From underground club dance-floors to televised pop star performances, the music of Major Lazer has crossed the globe and back, finding it’s way to radio, TV and even being sampled in Beyonce’s ‘Run The World (Girls)’, permeating culture everywhere. Now the Grammy-nominated Diplo and his partner, Switch, return as Major Lazer with the forthcoming release of their Original Don EP, available digitally everywhere November 1st via Mad Decent / Interscope!
Already cited by SPIN as a “straight, four-on-the-floor electro-house banger”, the title track “Original Don” featuring The Partysquad is heavy with dancehall drums, horns and bass and all of the notable sound effects – lazers, guns, cash registers, cheering crowds- that have become synonymous with the Major Lazer sound. The EP will also come with a remix from Italian duo, Crookers, as well as alternate versions of the track from The Partysquad and Major Lazer. And yes, this will in fact mark good news to many, as the EP acts as a predecessor to one of the most highly anticipated releases of 2012, Major Lazer’s follow-up album to the wildly popular full length Guns Don’t Kill People…Lazer’s Do and Lazer’s Never Die EP. Recorded largely in Jamaica at Gee Jam in Port Antonio, the sophomore effort will feature more of the duo’s futuristic take on an electronic dancehall scene, along with many exciting guest appearances. More details to be announced soon!

Schifrin Earns Latin Grammy Nomination for Best Contemporary Classical Composition “Romerías”
(September 26, 2011 – Los Angeles, CA) Aleph Records proudly congratulates the legendary Lalo Schifrin on his Latin Grammy Award® nomination for Romerías. Romerías is a nine-movement suite for solo guitar, performed by Sergio Puccini and released on the album of the same name, released by Aleph Records in September 2010.
Schifrin earned his fifth Grammy in the Best Contemporary Classical Composition category last year with Pampas.
Mr. Schifrin said about his work: “Romerías in Spanish means carnivals or big parties where there is a display of popular arts, food, and drinks. Romerías for solo guitar is a Suite that reflects that feeling of celebration. It explores the different possibilities of this great instrument within the parameters of classical, popular, and folk elements. At the same time, it also brings out the various potentialities of the guitar technique.”
“I’m very happy with this nomination and for having the opportunity to play and record the fantastic suite Romerías for guitar solo by Lalo in its complete version,” said Sergio Puccini. “I’m thrilled that Lalo is nominated for his guitar music and of course I´m proud of sharing this important distinction with him.”
Said Schifrin, “I applaud Sergio Puccini for his impeccable interpretation of this work. He brings to life the spirit of Romerías.”
Composer Lalo Schifrin is a true Renaissance man. As a pianist, composer and conductor, he is equally at home conducting a symphony orchestra, performing at an international jazz festival, scoring a film or television show.
Schifrin has written over 100 film and television scores including Mission Impossible, Mannix, Cool Hand Luke, Bullitt, The Cincinnati Kid, Amityville Horror, four of the Dirty Harry films, and more recently Abominable and the Rush Hour trilogy. Lalo Schifrin has now won five Grammys® (twenty-three nominations), one Cable ACE Award, and six Academy Award® nominations. His longtime involvement in both the jazz and symphonic worlds came together in 1993 as pianist and conductor for his on-going series of “Jazz Meets the Symphony” recordings.

The top eight artists from “The Voice” are:
Beverly McClellan – A member of Christina’s team, Beverly is a soulful rock singer with honest lyrics and a raw sound. Beverly plays over 10 instruments and has already released five independent albums. Originally from Virginia, she’s worked the clubs and bars around Fort Lauderdale, Florida for nearly 20 years, always looking for that big break.
Vicci Martinez - A member of Cee Lo’s team and only 26 years of age, this bluesy soul singer from Tacoma, Washington has already opened for or shared the stage with notables such as Sting, Annie Lennox, B.B. King, the Doobie Brothers, Etta James, and Jonny Lang. She draws strong support from her family – and the memory of her late father.
Javier Colon – A member of Adam’s team, this soulful pop singer’s father worked at a radio station, immersing his son in music from an early age; by 13, Javier was writing his own songs. His young talent led to touring gigs and even a contract with Capitol Records, but his career never really took off. Now, the devoted husband and father of two is taking a final shot at pursing his musical dreams before leaving music behind to support his family.
Dia Frampton - A member of Blake’s team, this 23-year-old singer-songwriter hails from St. George, Utah. Her career aspiration has been to be a voice-over actress, but her considerable singing talents may just steer her elsewhere. A life-long bookworm, Dia also writes novels and children’s books.
Frenchie Davis – A member of Christina’s team, this Washington D.C. native found success on Broadway, where she starred in “Rent,” for four years. She also had headlining roles in the touring shows of “DreamGirls” and “Ain’t Misbehavin,” which she received a Grammy nomination for the cast recording. Frenchie hopes to record an album of dance, classics, broadway, and a few new original songs.
Nakia – A member of Cee Lo’s team and based in Austin, Texas, 36-year-old Nakia draws strength from his extended family and inspiration from the memory of his father. Until he passed away in 2009, Nakia’s dad encouraged him to follow his dreams. The bluesy singer knows he doesn’t look like a typical pop performer, but that doesn’t discourage him at all. He realizes that on The Voice, all that matters is how he sings.
Casey Weston - A member of Adam’s team, this recent high school graduate from Naples, Florida is passionate about two things: music and animals. The child of two professional volleyball players, Casey was being groomed for a career as an athlete. But at age 13, the urge to perform took over, and Casey’s musical star has been on the rise ever since.
Xenia – A member of Blake’s team, few of her high school classmates even knew Xenia could sing – until now. The young artist from Temecula, California also plays the guitar, harmonica and piano by ear. The middle child in a family of five, Xenia draws strength and inspiration for her music from her family and from what she sees and hears in her daily life.

About “The Voice”:
“The Voice” is a vocal competition series modeled after Holland’s top-rated vocal talent discovery show, “The Voice of Holland.” Hosted by Carson Daly, the show features four musician coaches: Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, who will coach only the most talented vocalists.
The show’s innovative format features three stages of competition: the first begins with the blind audition, then the competition enters into a battle phase, and finally, the live performance. The show’s casting team is working with the music industry and searching the country for the best singers to bring to the blind audition process. During the blind auditions, the decisions from the coaches are based solely on voice and not on looks. The coaches hear the contestants perform, but they don’t get to see them – thanks to rotating chairs. If a coach is impressed by a contestant’s voice, he/she pushes a button to select the contestant. At this point, the coach’s chair will swivel to face the contestant selected. If more than one coach selects the talent, the power shifts to the contestant, who may choose which coach they want to work with throughout the competition.
Once the teams are set, the battle is on. Coaches will dedicate themselves to developing their singers, giving them advice, and sharing the secrets of their success. During the battle rounds the coaches will pit two of their own team members against each other to sing the same song together in front of a studio audience. After the vocal face-off, the coach must choose which singers will advance.
At the end of the battle episodes, only the strongest members of each coach’s roster remain and proceed to the live stage shows. In this final performance phase of the competition, the top contestants from each team will compete against each other during a live broadcast. The television audience will vote to save one contestant on each team, leaving the coach to decide live who they want to save and who will not move on. At last, each coach will have his/her best contestant left standing to compete in the finale. From these four, one will be named “The Voice” – and will receive the grand prize of a recording contract and $100,000.
“The Voice” is a presentation of Mark Burnett’s One Three Inc., Talpa Content USA, Inc. and Warner Horizon Television. The series is created by John de Mol, who will executive-produce along with Burnett, Audrey Morrissey and Stijn Bakkers. http://www.nbc.com/the-voice/about/
